An African American long distance running history projects was launched in May 2014 by the National Black Marathoners Association (NBMA) in conjunction with the Ted Corbitt Archives. It is believed that this is the first time a history timeline has been produced documenting black running history. Many credit Ted Corbitt as being the first great African American long distance runner. This project will set the record straight and recognize that there were many black American national champions at various distances, a world record holder and Olympians who pre-dated Ted Corbitt. It is hoped that this project will inspire a generation of scholars to research and publish these untold stories. The timeline goes from 1879 to 1979 and can be found here: http://tedcorbitt.com/Black_Running_History.html at tedcorbitt.com under the tab Ted Corbitt Archives – Black Running History.
