I just looked at the results for great lakes and Eastern michigan was leading at half way through the race and placed 5th!

Hey they went out on the edge for it. I tip my hat to them.

shot their load too early + wisconsin was just chilling
They should have taken Gerry Lindgren's advice and sprinted halfway. Only joking. Maybe next year? Are they returning many? Any impact commits?
They were leading the front group early, but the pace was not that hard and I think that they had been drifting back before even the 6km mark and probably were starting to feel the effects on the climbs up to 8km and again to 9+km. Probably would have been smarter to move up a little later but they really had to roll the dice because they essentially had to beat Michigan, which was a pretty tall order.

#5 man is a senior, all others have eligibility remaining. #2-3 are redshirt freshmen. Their #2 guy came into the meet with some debilitating back spasms and held it together for 5 or 6k before cratering.
You have to give them credit for the effort. I think that next year their men and women could be in a position to advance as a team. Women lose their top girl but they also were missing their #4. The men are young and seem hungry to bring back the old school tradition.
Great to see the MAC doing so well and the women's side having a team and all four individuals out of the region.
Did you get a picture? That's almost as cool as an ostrich!
