Ok shoe nerds, I need some suggestions. I need something for dicey conditions, mix of ice, deep snow, slush, trails, and sporadic bits of groomed concrete. I need it to be a warm shoe too, and with a low drop 2-8mm, 3-6 preferred.
I log 90% of my miles in the Kinvara, I have not tried the GTX but I don't believe there are any differences to the tread which is a big concern. I know that I could technically wear yak trax or make screw shoes, but trax don't tend to stay on me well and I hit enough concrete that either option would shred quickly.
I am looking for something similar to the Kinvara in terms of fit: light and low drop, but warmer on my feet and with more aggressive tread. Maybe something like a Zoom Wildhorse GTX. However I have not seen those available yet, I was wondering if there was something like that I am missing or if something like a Salomon Fellcross/raiser would be warm enough. I'm okay with going up to maybe 10.5 ounces but lighter is preferred. I guess if there is a really sweet shoe out there I could wear gaiters, but that's a pain also especially if I really want to bomb through some speed.
Any suggestions?
Also, could use a recommendation for a super warm lightweight jacket, I have a feeling this will be a cold one.
