Anyone here an insurance adjuster?

Specifically a catastrophe adjuster. From what I understand they travel to a specific catastrophe location(whether its tornados, floods, hurricanes, even hail storms). The get a certain number of claims for an insurance company, they handle the claims and get paid based on handling those claims. I hear expericenced adjusters make very good money (100+ and they don't work 12 months) but don't know where to start.

I'm single, pretty good construction background, have a degree in marketing but can't find a job other than home depot for 11 bucks an hour to start. I don't want a job in a cubicle but I don't want to frame a house or install roofs (plus only mexicans do those jobs in my area). I'm willing to travel and have some savings that could give me a year to train for another job.

CAT Adjusters can make an OK buck, but work a lot of claims, and need to have experience and the ability to work independently and make coverage decisions.You don't start there.

Here's some options.

1/ Look for independent adjuster positions as opposed to major companies (State Farm, Nationwide, Allstate,etc). Those companies will only look at you if you have adjuster experience unless you want a cubicle job. Independent adjusting companies will be more inclined to train you, but they oftentimes want people to work both auto and property.

2/ Go to work for a fire and water mitigation/restoration company. Companies like Servpro/Servicemaster do water and fire clean up, companies like Paul Davis do the clean up and rebuild. You may do some grunt work for a while, but this gives you first hand experience in damages and how things are viewed for coverage. This is a good stepping stone to then go to work for an insurance company as an adjuster.

3/ Work for an insurance company in a cubicle. You will do phone interviews and get basic experience in policies,coverage, repairs, etc. Many people start there and then go out into the field.
