It will take more than firing to influence the OTHER future (not this one) crazy teachers to stop abusing kids. I don't really feel sorry for the kid in this instance, but the school system is broke and teachers are out of control. It will take a lot of loss of money before enough pressure is brought to make fixes. I would require the offending teachers to pay a heavy price (not just getting fired). I can't believe they are so stupid to think that they won't get busted.

I think it's funny that if the exact same thing took place in a few months (when the boy is 18) and at a different location it would completely legal. I don't know why we freak out so much about people doing things to 16 and 17 year olds but then have no problem with the same things happening to 18 year olds. I realize a line needs to be drawn somewhere, but geez.

I don't want to trivialize sexual assault but wonder if a lawyer could argue that a substitute teacher isn't a "significant relationship.' A one day sub is a stranger.

The age difference is 5-6 years. Strike.

The teacher is not the kid's regular teacher. Strike.

The sub teacher gets some jail time, for being dumb enough to let the kid? convince her to do something naughty on school property.

The grieving family get absolutely nothing. What type of kid? have they raised who is already a predator of females?

Courts don't look favorably with school personnel having sex with students. Substitute teacher may not be a significant relationship, but I doubt the court is going to see it that way. I doubt the sub is going to win this case and any sane lawyer is not going to take it that far. She's going to settle, most of the money will be paid by the school district to make it go away and she'll never work in a school again in her life.

This is 100% the teacher's fault. Teachers are held to a higher level of responsibility, even substitute teachers.
