What did you all think of the movie?
It was eye opening and an excellent movie! A lot of plot twists and unexpected results.

Horrible movie. Reese Witherspoon and Ben = lots of Hollywood clout = lots of press but doesn't change the fact the movie stinks.
Might enjoy if you want to say I just went to the latest big movie. . IMO drinking the koolaide.
Reese Witherspoon is not in the movie...
Saw it last night with my wife, excellent movie. Makes you not trust your
Spouse!

another ignorant slut: she co-wrote the screenplay
The movie gave a lot of insight behind sociopathy in women. Usually you hear that about men (American psycho) etc.
I'm reading the book and find it a lot more interesting than the movie.
The movie was great until Doogie Howser put her up in his lake house. Security cameras recording all the time. He's like the richest guy in the world yet the FBI believes her cockamamie story that he kidnapped her from her home. Barney Fife would have picked that apart in 2 seconds.
The girlfriend of the husband shows up at the sisters house and spends the night...really?
The conversation Ben Affleck character had with his sister about staying with his sociopath wife because he owes it to his unborn baby...really?
Tyler Perry's character was wasted. That guy needs to be more mainstream and quit making those freaking idiotic Madea movies.
Ben is annoying and rather stupid...

Someone needs to tell David Fincher that he was not the director.
Reese was a producer.
I didn't read the book, but having watched the movie I felt like it was missing a lot that the book probably had. So much of the plot and scenes came off as camp to me. Too over the top.

Exactly! Camp and over the top are fitting descriptions. And the book was worse.
And thanks, you are correct about Reese. The point was Reese and Ben have a lot of Hollywood pull and thus there movie is getting a lot of press. It is not a blockbuster or even engaging. Just shows what a name can do.
But hey if people want to spend their money on trash it is their choice.
This movie brought back terrible memories. I dated a psycho chic. when I got married, she moved into an apt. about 5 bocks down the street. Then, my car would be the only car that was, keyed, tires slashed, antenna broken, etc. Tons of cars lining the street, and every four or five weeks, my car was the only one vandalized. And, to boot, her brother was/is a local city cop. He must of told stories by her, because he would see me and stare me down, and wait for me to drive away and follow me. Thankfully, each time he had a partner who must of been rational.
Whew, glad, I don't live in that town anymore!

Thank you for your story. It has enriched all of our lives.
Mick
I had similar experiences. It seems the psycho ex is more common in females than males.
Mine kept coming over even after I broke up with her. I even tried to be rude enough to get her to leave, and even told her to give me a bj while I watched TV. Nothing made her leave. The bj was good.
Today on the news in California a man who dated a woman a few times and then broke up with her found her stuck in the chimney evidently trying to break in. The police came and used lubricant to get her out and then carted her off to jail.
But Gone Girl isn't even this entertaining. Two and 1/2 hours of my life I will never get back.
Warped over-the-top trash.
What about trying to break into your house by coming down the chimney and getting stuck?! Man, that must have been a scene!
Easily a top five movie for me. Kept me engaged the whole time.
My impression of the "camp" was that it was deliberate. The theme of the movie was that these people were acting for each other, so things seem fake and hokey even in their happier times. Affleck's character is putting on a show for various people all the way through the film: for his wife, then for the detectives, for his sister, then for the reporters, then again for his wife (when he goes on the shallow news show). He even spells it out for those in the audience who might've been too dull to notice. And of course his wife is a psychopath, so her whole life is an act.
I don't know why people care who has pull in Hollywood. Newsflash, every major studio film involves people with pull in Hollywood. You think they're going to give a 7 figure deal to some nobody on the hope that he makes a great film?
