My kids' public elementary school just held its annual jogathon fundraiser. Via a link accessible to anyone on the school's website, every kid in the school's first name, last initial, and room # were listed, along with the amount each family contributed.
Is this legal? My stance is that it is a privacy violation and totally inappropriate. Several PTA board members I have spoken to claim it is ok because it encouraged competition which would result in more money being raised for the school.
Overall, the people ok with this seem to be the ones who were able to contribute large amounts of money. Those who feel this was a violation are the ones who donated little or nothing.
I plan on attending the next board meeting and could use some legal and ethical advice on how to best present a case for why this is not ok.
