I don't think it will ever happen by a clean athlete.
From what you suggested above, I do not see how you get 10-15 years. At the rate above you gave, it should
7 years to get 2:02:57 to 2:01:57
then
8 years from 2:01:57 to 2:00:57
then
9 years from 2:00:57 to Sub 2 Hours
That equates to 24 years. IMO, I think it will be broken in 30-40 years.
You have to take into account advances in training and technology in the next decade+. What did athletes know about training/technology 10 years ago? They have come a long ways in a decade. But you are right. It will likely be more than 10-15 years and closer to 20+ years.
