Dear Lets runners I'm at a lost to find out what event I should train for. I ran in college and have PRs of 800: 1:52 (on 20 miles per week), 1/2 marathon 1:10:xx (on 80 miles), 8 miles 40:08 minutes. I stopped running the last 12-15 years, but have been doing recreational cycling for last 3-4 years, with some on and off running but nothing serious. I'm now 36 and just want to run descent again and not be a 6 minute jogger. In May I ran a 1/2 marathon after only 3 month of training and did 6:30/mile (died horrible after going out in 4:50 first mile), very crappy race. Also, couldn't train the entire last month leading to it because of a plantar fasciitis injury.
currently I'm running slow about 6 min/mile for 10 miles on 35-40 miles/week. The interested thing is I can go out and run 800s in like 2:20s in training; but I just can't seem to hold any type of pacing. Should I give up trying to run 1/2 marathon and just run 5Ks since I stopped running for so long and let it come back naturally. My milage is low because as I mentioned I have not run the last 14-15 years. What event would you have me run?
