wait a cotton picking minute. Weren't the floods a year ago? Sounds like they never planned to host it.
No refunds too, right?
...like a rotten basturd...
Here is the announcement from the race website. The Spring 2014 Half Marathon was held on the same course, so the flooding excuse does not add up for this year's race:
Dear Boulder Marathon Runner,
Unfortunately it has become necessary to postpone the Boulder Marathon event until fall 2015. The hurdles and challenges in the wake of the Boulder Flood one year ago ultimately made it impossible to produce the Boulder Marathon event in 2014. Add to this the tragedy that occurred at the Boulder Spring Half Marathon, and the task of producing the 2014 Boulder Marathon event simply became impossible.
All runners who are registered for the 2014 Boulder Marathon, Half Marathon & 5 Mile event on October 5th will be able to use their paid entry fee for either the 2015 Boulder Spring Half Marathon, or next fall's Boulder Marathon event. The minute we know our 2015 dates we'll send you a no-charge registration link for either the Boulder Spring Half or the Boulder Marathon event. Dates of both events will be finalized by the end of October.
It's disappointing to have to tell you this news, but know that we have a lot to look forward to in 2015. We have a new USA Track & Field championship race course that returns around the east side of the reservoir and is much better for runners and spectators alike (we'll post the new map soon); a new Boulder non-profit charity that we're really excited about; and we'll have several other new sponsors for 2015 as well.
Finally, on a very sad note, I'd like to note the passing of Jessica Dillon at the Boulder Spring Half Marathon in May. Also, Lesley Kinder, race director of the Boulder Backroads Marathon (1999 - 2006), passed away this spring as well. Speaking for myself (and I know for many others in the Colorado running community) my heartfelt condolences go out to the Dillon and Kinder families during this difficult time.
Next year marks our 10th year producing the Boulder Marathon and Boulder Spring Half Marathon. While this year hasn't been the easiest, I for one am looking forward to 2015, and hope to see you at the Boulder Spring Half in May.
Good luck with your running, and stay tuned for information on our 2015 events.
Best Regards,
Jeff Mason
Race Director
While seems like they might have figured this out a few weeks earlier. Also, the deaths are sad, but come on, seriously?
With all the lawsuits I am skeptical. Maybe Robert Mueller can check into this.
I suspect the race is done forever. There is minimal impact to the course with the floods. I smell a lawsuit-and no assets, and no ability to get insurance-or at least cost effective insurance, and the abandonment of a sponsor.
Same thing happened to Mile High City Marathon a decade ago. Undercapitalized. As much as I hate Rock n Roll, they do put on a race, and pay their bills.
What tragedy occurred?
20 year old girl dropped dead in the half marathon (same course, same operator) last spring. Also, founder that current operator bought race from died of cancer. Don't know of any liability or lingering lawsuits regarding that though. Newspaper hints there was a lawsuit between them in 2007-but hard to believe that's still going on, unless her estate is cracking the whip about settlement payment stream or something.

.
More like Rock n Roll gets a ton of corporate welfare to put on their races where local races are the only ones really paying their bills.
From the Boulder Daily Camera. Similar, though less detailed report on 9news (Denver television) website.
Boulder Marathon director Jeff Mason failed to secure several key permits ahead of the Oct. 5 event, which he cancelled Friday with about two weeks notice for the more than 1,000 people who'd paid to compete.
"They were required to get permits from the Colorado State Patrol, the Boulder Reservoir, Boulder County Transportation and the Boulder Police Department," Sheriff's Cmdr. Heidi Prentup. "He did not meet the deadlines that are established to receive the permits, so he was not permitted."
Stacy Cole, manager of the Boulder Reservoir — where the race was supposed to start and end — said that by the time her office was contacted, the event was already dead.
"The State Patrol denied the permitting first, and because of that, there was no way that he could have the event," Cole said. "Subsequently, the county denied the permit and then we had no event to permit."
Do I still get a t-shirt?
What is a "USA Track & Field Championship Course"?
Where can I pick up my finisher's medal?

Guess they meant this is the USATF Colorado Association Half Marathon Championship.
What a terribly "organized" "event".
DA involved now. Bye-bye Boulder Marathon.

Good question... and I'm still getting a 26.2 sticker for my car. I had every intention to run and 26.2 is on my bucket list.
Those impacted should receive automatic acceptance to Boston 2015 - or prepare for the consequences... http://community.runnersworld.com/topic/could-someone-go-over-the-edge-if-rejected
Quote below from the comments section in the Daily Camera article:
http://www.dailycamera.com/news/boulder/ci_26575172/boulder-marathon-director-lacked-permits-triggering-cancellationI did some quick research on Jeff Mason (Full Name: Jeffrey Arthur Mason) and discovered he has had chronic financial problems in recent years.
For example, the following federal tax liens have been filed against him since 2010:
$1,208, September 3, 2010
$151,289, July 24, 2013
$32,053, September 6, 2013
$11,608, April 11, 2014
Separately, he's also been a defendant in several civil actions filed at state court and had a property foreclosed.
Not hard to imagine where my marathon entrance fee and those of everyone else went.
For the depth of a running community, there have been few well run marathons in the Denver area.
The Denver (mile high city) Marathon was cancelled back in 2004 before it was purchased by Competitor. The RD, Anton, stayed on afterwards as VP and now owns a Race company. Doesn't look like having the plug pulled less than 24 hours before the race start impacted him negatively
Colfax has had their issues, although Creigh has an infrastructure to help pull it off now.
Boulder was never well run minus 2008 after it was sold by Kinder. A couple people really helped it even get off the ground the first year.
Rock and Roll comes in and has a short course and it still looks the best out of all of them
The Horsetooth appears to be the best year after year...
I see Human Movement is trying to save the Boulder event, that means zombie's at every aid station and a ugly sweater in your goodie bag. They are pushing that fastest growing company stuff while laying people off at the same time

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06
