Good evening everyone,
Looking for opinions on the Wild Life Marathon in Michigan. I'm concerned because the overall ascent is +268 ft. You get it back because it's an out & back, but that's intimidating to me at the Marathon distance. This past August, I ran a 3:15:10, but that was on a flat course. I was back to semi normal running at exactly 2 weeks from that marathon, and I've gotten in (2) 15.5 milers, and (1) 20 miler. I should be able to get in (2) more 20 milers before tapering for the next Marathon. I think this should have me in better shape for the upcoming Marathon than I previously was, but I've heard some crazy stories about it taking a very long time to recover from a Marathon, but I feel fine. At any rate, my training route has an elevation profile very similar to what I would see in this upcoming race. Also, the temperature should be 15 degrees cooler than the August race...which will help me.
Basically, I'm trying to qualify for Boston, and I need a 3:15:00, not a 3:15:10. How much do you think this elevation change will affect me? Is it just absurd to think I could have gained enough additional endurance since the last Marathon to pull through with an even better time on a hillier course?
