I've been training hoping to come close to a 5 minute mile. I know that's 1/2 marathon race pace for some of you, but I've never been that good and I'm 50, so to me it's a big goal.
I wanted to try a Kosmin test but didn't want to bother anyone to help me perform it, so did a one-person modified version.
Kosmin has 1376 meters predicting a 4' 37" 1500 which would be about a 5 minute mile. So for my one-man test, I wheeled off 1376/4=344 meters and then attempted to run each one in 60 seconds (with 3 minutes rest after the 1st, 2 minutes after the 2nd, and 1 minute after the 3rd).
What do the experts think? Close enough, practically speaking, to be similarly predictive of my mile ability as the real Kosmin test. Do you all put any stock in the Kosmin test as a good predictor?
FWIW, I did 59.44, 59.69, 60.86, 65.70 (yup, completely dead for the last one but I'm hoping I can blame the heat and humidity a little). Do I have any chance to hit 5:00?
