If you go on reddit and start a post about how you don't care that the NSA spies on all Americans, you'll get a harsh response about invasion of privacy, etc. Yet, when someone hacked into the phones of multiple celebrities--violating their privacy--to post nude photos on the web, reddit users met the event with celebration. Why is there such a huge double standard among that community?
Have you ever studied moral philosophy or engaged in ethical thinking? Do you really think these two things are exactly equal in import and moral effect on the populace, impact on our nation's future and on the future of human civilization? Have you studied History and social sciences? Ever heard of utilitarianism? It's true that, superficially, there could be said to exist a double standard.
You live in the crappola reality that most young adults live in--blind to responsibility and place in history. The NSA leaks--which would not otherwise be known--exist in the vein of the history and struggle of civilization towards progress, stability and morals. Abuse of power, totalitarianism, surveillance, corruption--do you know how much murder, bloodshed, suffering, iniquity, devastation these have caused? And how the pillars of the entire history and work and sacrifice of mankind, the foundations, were shaken by such?
No, most young people these days are just out for status, degrees, jobs, marriage, sex, etc. in such vain superficial ways. And then, cognitive dissonance comes into effect when something like this happens--only whine when their selfish lifestyle gets threatened.
There are people who probably correctly believe that this event is not really an event but that such security breeches occur all the time, in every realm, since the dawn of the digital age. I don't think it was just 1 iCloud thing, the breeches were not made in one fell swoop and while people are entitled to privacy, dignity and financial stability, some of these celebrities are vacuous, soulless idiots who contribute garbage art and are self-serving greedy lunatics. So what if some reddit kids get off on naked celebrity pics and seem to not care about privacy? And, if you hadn't noticed, those same dudes, in this whole time, have raised money for charity.
I could go on and on but you should come up with reasons yourself.
