I'm a high school junior and have been training for the Cross Country season with my team. During the whole summer I trained with our top 4 girls pretty consistently and had really high hopes for the season. However, when we started doing interval work and tempo I started to really fall off. The frustrating thing is that girls who were running way less than me and taking weeks off for vacation and stuff are now having huge breakthroughs and kicking my butt. I didn't take any vacations, ran 6 or 7 days a week, did weights and core, etc. Its just frustrating to see other people improving while I stay the same. Do they just have way more talent than me? I can stick in road runs but intervals are killing me.
I do take iron, I was severely anemic last xc season and had to basically take the winter off because of it. Also I was injured for all of track season and had to take 3 months off. I started running in June. Any advice or tips? Do I just need more mental toughness?
