Recently we have just started our high school cross country season. I am going into my sophomore year and have been told many times that I am very talented and have potential. Freshman year I had one good race where I PRed by a minute and was 3rd on the varsity team. The rest of the season went downhill and I did not do very well the last few meets. I have never been successful in a large meet (state, nationals) and am a very mental runner. I am however usually very good in the trainings and workouts and am top of my team, unlike the meets. For this season, I have been doing very mediocre in the trainings and long runs. We also had a mile time trial which I did extremely poor in. During the summer i ran club track and everything went awfully. My question is if I take time off from this season will it benefit me for track? It seems i have lost some of the passion for the sport and do not enjoy it as much anymore. Will time off help me? Thank you very much.
