Folks. Got a marathon in November, Monday did a 12 mile tempo hitting splits 5:56,5:56,5:56,5:42,5:42,5:42, handcramp, 5:32, 5:32, 5:32, 5:22, 5:22, 5:05 (5:36 average). This is one of my first specific workouts really. It is 85 days until race day. Would it be wise to do a 15 mile tempo in 4 weeks and then a 18 mile tempo ( sub 5:30 average) about 5 weeks from race day or would that be unwise or perhaps a little bit of a pipedream? Thanks for the patience so far. The objective is not to do something dumb and that could be it. What would be an alternative.
On labor day (9/1) I have entered into a 8k race to get some racing under my belt since it has been a while. I have a 8k p.r of 25:05 which was set a year ago or so. Would it be smart to race this with the goal being a marathon in November?
