I'm in Istanbul on vacation for a few day and overestimated my hotels gym facilities. Does anyone have any experience running here?
Anyone want to do a few miles tomorrow or in the next few days? I've been spoiled by the running in American cities.

it's been more than ten years ago, but i did some marathon training while visiting instanbul for about ten days. i don't have any particular routes to recommend, but i remember doing some runs along the bosporus. i got some curious looks, probably b/c they're not used to seeing runners, but otherwise folks left me alone. after all, instanbul has a lot of western elements. i'm male. not sure if it'd be different if you were female and running alone.
Search mapmyrun. There are about 30 routes > 5 miles.
Thanks all.
For the purpose of the letsrun archive (which contains all of the most important human knowledge, just ask our typical genius poster) these are some of my thoughts on running while visiting Istanbul:
-Certainly get out early; while the pedestrian streets become truck roads at off hours it's still easier than dodging the throngs of shoppers and occasional seated beggar.
-A visit to Büyükada in the Princes Islands could coincide nicely with a long run. It's about seven miles around the island with some great views and (almost) no cars. The main traffic is horse drawn carriage which does result in the affiliated odors. Being a runner here was quite a novelty.
-The park by the Hilton and Intercontinental near Taksim Square is nice for shorter loops with part of it dirt. We did get one terrifying death glare that was outside of the typical confused look.
-If you are reading this before booking a hotel you may be better served with lodging near to the waterfront which looks to have better running, as the streets are nearly universally a mess.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
