Including relays, road races, etc.
Currently I have ~25; I'd have to check to see exactly how many.

won or received.
Many races have a medal for every participant.
"Won" or earned?
I got a ton from marathons but they hand those out with the powerade. Ditto for the relays, half-marathons, etc.
Two age groups awards in ultras.
One cheesy ribbon for a second place finish in a small local 5 miler. My middle daughter remarked that the field must have sucked. It did-plus the leaders missed the turnaround. Very proud of that cheesy ribbon, wherever it is.
I have only two, one from Marine Corps and one from Boston. I really suffered to get those marathon medals. I don't accept any other medals, ribbons, etc. for dinky races. They are a dime a dozen.

*finisher's medals, not winning medals
My guess would be 40 or 50 and that's before age 30. Haven't raced much in my 30s. They're fairly easy to pickup at weekend 5ks.
I cant believe it has gotten to the point where LRC talks about finisher medals...
This site used to be a goldmine of ambitious high school students and college athletes looking to kill the fall with willing mentors to provide thoughtful advice...
Now we are talking about finisher medals...
thinking the end of my lrc visits is coming soon...
too many to count.
after the first couple they begin to lose their significance, then they go to a box to be donated, except for the few that have personal meaning.
1 for 3rd place in a 5K.
There's a big difference between participant medals and the ones a runner earns finishing in the top three of their age group.
The "we're all winners" participant medals are nice to have. In the old days you simply got a participant ribbon. But they just mean you showed up.
The ones that meant something were the top three in age group. Had to train hard to get those.
We talking finishers medals? Probably one for each marathon I've run. They don't give finishers medals for the joe blow 5k.
Now, if we're talking awards that's a different story. I used to keep and my grandfather used to frame all of my race ribbons and medals from HS track and XC. Senior year track was nothing but blue until state. I probably still have them in a box somewhere. Hundreds of ribbons, medals, plaques, MVP awards, conference awards, state awards, etc.
Best award ever was a full whiskey bottle from a St. Paddy's day 5k....or the champagne from a New Years day 10 miler.

Not counting participation medals:
1 for second in my age group in a road mile in 4th grade.
7 in high school. 6 were as part of a relay team.
6 in college. 3 individual, 3 relay.
1 for second in a pretty big 5 miler since college (1'm 25).
I am most proud of my college ones as they were only handed out to the top 3 in the conference meet.
167.
But I started running when I was about 9 and cleaned up about 2-3 medals a meet essentially from that time through HS.
Only have 2 college medals.
How long till they start giving out "you made it to the starting line" medals. Like here's a medal for making it out of bed at 6am for a 8am race start.
I stopped hanging around for age group awards. I'm sick of having a bunch of cheap trophies, medals or plaques. I don't want them hanging around my house indefinitely. Eventually I'm going to have to move, and eventually(hopefully not for a long while) someone's gonig to have to go through my stuff and determine what to keep and what to give away. I wish they would just give out running store giftcards for winning your age group instead of plaques, trophies or medals.
There was a time when the awards at the Boston Marathon were a wreath and a medal with a ruby in the center, large trophies for the next 9 finishers and medals through 35. The race had no t-shirts, water or splits. The race was always run on April 19th and started at noon.
The only medals that matter are from OG and WC, you bodaggit.

If I finish in the top 15%, I wear it to work on Monday.
Not more than 20 over the years, plus a case of Sapporo beer.
If I recall correctly, I've won three 3 age group medals. I've also won a thermos and a gift certificate, again for age group placings.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
