Has anyone here paid to have their resume re-written by a professional company? Did you find it useful?

I've been a recruiter for years. See about 20 + resumes a day. I could easily re-write yours for you. Whatever you are going to pay for a "professional" to do it. Let me know I'll do it for half price.
I've seen companies charge anywhere from $100 to $450.

The place I looked at was asking $80.
I don't really think it is worth it, unless you really cannot preset yourself well. If I were you, I would pull a few examples from online and make my own, then have a recruiter review it (for free, provided you agree to let the recruiter help you find a position). For that matter, any recruiter will probably have style guides and tips for creating effective resumes.
With respect the the overall presentation, my advice is to keep it simple. Nowadays, resumes are collected online. I've seen tons of oddly formatted resumes. They probably all looked awesome when they were made, but once they got uploaded to our system, the formatting got all wonky (technical term) and some could be difficult to read. Although I never held it against those recruits, I suppose some people may. And, it always helps to make it easier for whoever will be screening it or interviewing you.
