Now, before you all jump down my throat let me explain. I was born in the 70s and grew up in the 80s. I've seen all the Mad Max films (the obvious favorite being Road Warrior). They're all brilliant. This new installment was written and directed by George Miller. You know, the guy that wrote and directed the original 3. I guess we wait for the movie to come out, but this preview looks very promising.

Just watched this and I'm very excited. The trailer looks promising.

Loved the original three.

Is this supposed to be a reboot of the original story (a la, Batman and Superman reboots). Or is this a continuation of raggedy man's story? Or is this a parallel story?

Miller explains it as:

"The film, which Miller calls "almost a continuous chase," extends the story of the first Mad Max film, but it's not necessarily within the canon of the rest of the series. "Of course it's based on the same character that they'll play, the lone warrior in the wasteland disengaged from the rest of the world," he said in a press conference. "But naturally Tom brings his Tom Hardy-ness to it, and the story is different to some degree. The character is different to some degree." Hardy's Max will be joined by Charlize Theron, playing a warrior known as Furiosa."

I'm glad you both agree. Most of the reviews of the trailer have been pretty harsh.

I was a kid when Beyond Thunderdome came out, and it was the first one I saw. And I saw it like 100 times over a summer on HBO. So, it holds the front spot in my memory, even if it isn't the best of the movies.

This could very well be the most badass awesome trailer I've ever seen. Things to note:

The humongous explosion at around 1:45 looks the same as in the earlier July trailer but with added vehicles. At first I thought they'd maybe cg'd it, but you can tell in the first trailer that it's the real deal. They took that thing out in the desert and blew it up.

The other vehicles in that scene look 100% real too - they just shot them separate and then composited them in. The sand storm scene is obviously mostly cg, but nearly everything else in the rest of the trailer looks pretty real with, probably, some small stuff added in here and there. Take note J.J.

Hopefully the movie's just as good.
