Hi everyone,
I am currently committed to run at a Big Ten school as a preferred walk on, which I will be going to in about a month. This past year I have had 3 stress fractures.
Timeline:
August 2011-metatarsal stress fracture
June 2013- femoral neck stress fracture
October 2013-femoral shaft stress fracture
March 2014-acute fracture in 3rd metatarsal
I haven't been healthy for more than a couple months after rehabbing and then I just get hurt again.
I have seen all the doctors and trainers and have perfected my form, nutrition, training, etc. Just about a week ago, I started having pain in my foot again, this time along the side of my foot at the insertion point of my posterior tib, just along the navicular bone. After getting an MRI, ii have 3 stress reactions- one in my third and fourth metatarsals, and the other in my navicular. I am getting a CT scan as well to make sure there are no fractures. Could an MRI not show a fracture?
Either way, I will be out for 2-3 months at least. Is it worth it to try and stay in shape to run for the school someday? I just don't know what to do because it is so frustrating working so hard to come back and then getting hurt again. I don't want to risk getting hurt again and waste my time, but I also don't want to regret a decision. Maybe I just need to take a year off and run for enjoyment or the running club. I guess not everyone's body is cut out for it. If you could give me some advice it would be appreciated.
