At Uvic, on a grass track. A qualifying race to pick the top six to run in an intercollegiate x-country championship
Always something challenging as well as liberating about track racing - HS background and some maybe muscle memory five yr previous.
Had only restarted running again that summer after a two yr. layoff.
Anyhow really went for it wanted to get on the team. There were like eight or nine of us, but budgeting only for six to travel to Winnipeg.
Hung on to third spot with a pair of twins who were freshmen but in really good shape. First & second were pretty well decided. Our top runner later on WON this x-c in "Winter peg"
Twenty five laps is a lot of hard running, got lapped twice by the 'dynamic duo' Also faded to, SEVENTH spot, absolutely bummed out - but renewed with a determination to train my butt off, finally beat one of the "Bobbsey Twins in another track 10 km as well as a 3 km. 35 & change for that April 10 km, 9:17 for 3 km, had been training for our first marathon in Seaside, 1971
Never got my time for that inaugural 10 km, didn't care, what a hump that was
