some wild running
ideally, you want to run tight in lane 1 from gun-to-tape
what "extra" distance did these guys run ?

not again.
Other than two steps from Bosse on turn 1, neither of them even touched lane 2 on a bend until the end of turn 3. Bosse was on the rail by turn 2 and took a couple steps wide on the homestretch. Nijel was on the King's shoulder through turn 3 before touching lane 2 at the end. So at most 2 meters for him and for Bosse, none at all.
Does that 2 meters even make any difference, I doubt it. Running on the rail has its disadvantages because it's a tighter turn, and Amos was keying off Rudisha and probably getting a draft too. Take Rudisha out of the picture and put Amos on the rail, I don't think he goes any faster. Maybe even Bosse beats him. As he would have in any event had he not been too surprised to be in the hunt at 700m.
The wavy line Bosse took from the break to lane 1 is negligible extra distance.
rubbish
go look at whole race properly & last 3 bends
if you think nijel ran only 2m extra on last bend, then you have no clue about maths
You are using the formula 2*pi*r for the arc length right?
Another classic Ventolin troll thread. I'll be really disappointed with LetsRun if this makes it more than a page.
yyy wrote:You are using the formula 2*pi*r for the arc length right?
dumb question
it reduces simply to :
pi * how wide in lane
if you run wide in lane 1 for any bend, say 0.75m wide in a 1.22m lane which route-1 is 0.3m from kerb, you run extra of
2.36m
analyse last 3 bends & apply above formula
how do I watch it properly? Are there special glasses or something?
Even if Amos had been on the line of running in lane 2, it would have been only 3.5 extra meters. He was well inside lane 1 nearly the whole way, about 20cm from lane 2. Freeze frame around 1:46 a few times if you don't believe it. 10cm is the width of a human foot, and there is visible space (5+ cm) between each of Amos's feet and the lane 2 line, which itself is 5cm wide.
That's at least 40/112 of the way from the lane 2 LOR to the lane 1 LOR, for an extra distance of at most about 72*3.5/112 = 2.25m. About 2 meters.
If you don't have a copy of the IAAF facilities manual, you can download one for free.
yeah, but it is still the formula you are using. You are ignoring that space-time is curved! Get a clue about
geometry on manifolds!

no
fool
there are 3 relevant bends
He was well inside lane 1 nearly the whole way, about 20cm from lane 2
now apply that to 1st 2 bends
& then also to last bend where he is visibly in lane 2 before bend ends
Freeze frame around 1:46 a few times if you don't believe it. 10cm is the width of a human foot, and there is visible space (5+ cm) between each of Amos's feet and the lane 2 line, which itself is 5cm wide
then use your brain & factor in his centre of mass woud be ~ 15 - 20cm lateral to inner foot
for an extra distance of at most about 72*3.5/112 = 2.25m. About 2 meters
we want precision
that number is 2.25m

for what ???
can't you comprehend
pi * how wide in lane from 30cm in
???
Correct. I don't always agree with your comments, but this is exactly the case.
Quick enough to beat Jim Ryun.

Seriously, it's just an 800. The extra distance is insignificant.

"It's just an 800" and "extra distance is insignificant" seem kind of contradictory, wouldn't you say
I mean what difference does a few extra meters in the 100 meter dash make...

You can't get precision. You're eyeballing distance by estimating arc-segment lengths travelled by estimating lane spacing based on, among other things, average foot width on a video replay with multiple cuts. It's false precision. Bad Wigins rounded appropriately.
Engineer out.
What do you mean "extra"?

Troll. You are not on first names basis with Mr. Amos.

you can get damn precise estimate if you have analysed enough vids
& this is quality vid

utter drivel
foot width ???
is sasquatch running in the race ???
on a video replay with multiple cuts
learn fool
you look for violent changes in body position relative to other runners
if none, you know the trajectory remains basically unaltered before/after cut away
It's false precision
no
it's very good precision if you analyse properly
Bad Wigins rounded appropriately
no
he didn't
