Stay cool, and enjoy the downhill last mile.
I heard it was a new route, so who knows. Too rich for me anyway.
Be careful with PEDs. Rumor has it they are ramping up their drug testing big time and people who do gray area stuff like asthma inhalers and thyroid meds will not be tolerated. There is also renewed emphasis on going after the masters runners who frequent anti-aging clinics.
Don't go out too hard the first mile. It's easy to do because the race is so competitive, but the uphill can sap your strength, especially if it's humid (which it will be). Running a few seconds slower than goal pace the first mile will pay dividends later on.
Just go out controlled for the first two miles until you get back to the start area. The second time up the hill, start pushing. If you run smart you should be able to pick off a ton of people around the college.
When you hit the pike, turn on the jets for the final .97. It's a straight shot with a slight net downhill. If you're fighting with other runners and have conserved enough from not going out too hard, you should be able to finish fast.

Exactly. The year I was 6th, there were at least 20 guys ahead of me at the mile, and I was still picking off people in the 3rd mile. People go out too fast at that race even more so than at others.
True. I've run it before and will be running it again and as I recall that first mile was my fastest mile back then :(
Unless they've changed the course, it's pretty boring. Also, keep your wits about you if you blow up -- the last time I ran it, some over-40 Russian woman almost chicked me at 28:something.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
