what language is that?
This article is in Norwegian or Danish. The newspaper, aftenposten, sounds like the one that ran the anti-muslim comic strips that caused such a ruckus. Anyway, if not the name, I'd assume it is an Oslo, Norway newspaper talking about Rupp ahead of Bislett. From what I can understand in the article, they spend quite a bit of time talking about Rupp beating or competing with Africans (Ethiopians, Kenyans, and Moroccans), despite the latter's supposed genetic advantage. That false notion is at the root of Western European weakness in the distances since the end of the 1980s. Why do European soccer teams do so well if they are physically genetically inferior?
Galen Rupp has killed the myth that you have to be African to run fast at medium to long range. But he slept in altitude tent since he was 14 years old.
Long Distance Running before a bunch of Africans and Ethiopians who are fighting for the gold, interspersed with some from Somalia, Uganda and Morocco.
Long Distance Running in 2014: The white American Galen Rupp tops worldwide statistics of 10,000 meters in front of eight Kenyans.
- Africans have good genetic basis for long-distance, and the lives and runs in height. But it is possible to take up the fight against them. It takes just endless hard work over time, explains 28-year-old, who at Bislett Wednesday attacks on the U.S. record of 5,000 meters (12.53,60). Or rather, he's pretty happy with the purchase. (And the track record Kenenisa Bekele at the 12.52,26).
- My goal in 2014 is to improve tactical and a better sprinter. The main Wednesday will to win and to do that I must probably down in the 12th century, says the boy who took Olympic silver in the 10,000 meters at the London Olympics.
Thus the World Championships in Moscow last year was a disappointment. He was beaten in the sprint in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters and went medaljeløs home.
Height Tent success
Rupp being a little surprised when he hears that altitude tents are banned in Norway. He has slept in such since he was 14 years old.
- It has contributed to my success. I have no doubt that long distance runners, it helps to train and reside in height. But if you live in an altitude tent or height does not matter. It's just more convenient to use a tent. You will not have to be so far away from family.
- To what extent has the EPO played a role in long-distance?
- I do not know much about, there has never been an issue with us. I do not think there is a big problem.
- Has it been there before?
- Some are the been taken. But I have confidence that WADA is doing a good job, says Rupp.
Boasts Salazar
While American kids are retrieved by school bus runs Africans to and from.
- When I started running, I had many thousands of mile to catch up, says Rupp and smiles. He was to be a footballer when he was discovered by the former great runner Alberto Salazar, who otherwise did his best 10,000 meters at Bislett in 1982.
- Without Alberto would not be where I am today. He pushes us hard, but ensuring that we do not get damaged. And he's curious about everything that is new and can be integrated into the training said Rupp, who reveals that Americans are using laser treatment to prevent damage.
An injury Galen Rupp can Rio Olympics in 2016 breaking the African gold domination.

Norwegian. Nothing to do with Jyllandsposten that ran the
comic strips.
Aftenposten is featuring GR before Bislett June 11.
He will disprove Ventoline's claim that he can run 12:40

the world should follow Norway's example.
East Africans do have a genetic advantage but not the way people think. It's because they don't have a long history of civilization. Civilized populations adapt to being sedentary and fat over the millennia.
Before the East Africans it was mostly Nordic people dominating running. The Africans aren't really any better, but there are more of them - Ethiopia and Kenya combined have a population of 120 million, while the population of Finland, Sweden and Norway combined is only 16 million. There is also more financial incentive for the EA's to run, whereas Nordic athletes make more money as skiers.
Rupp can't run 12:40.

So...soccer=running. Great logic.
Racist piece.
Nordic folks have pretty much given upon distance running anyway. For this weekend's European Cup 10,000, or whatever it's called, there were no Finnish entries, male or female, at all.
20 mill in Finland+Sweden+Norway.
Skiing is different as you need a stong upper body. East Africans can never become dominant in this event.
East Africans do have a genetic advantage in running.
Look at the IAAF lists...it it the same with Ashkenazi
Jews...just too many Nobel Laureates in Physics to be
culture...There is shuttle between Princeton and the Weizmann Institute...

No. No, it's not. It's racial, not racist, but you're probably in your mid-20s at the oldest so you've been raised to think that anything racial is therefore racist.
We've overcorrected the ship, people. It's not racist to observe traits among a people of a race and report objectively about it.
It's also not racist to root for somebody of your own race being competitive. I wish all distance and sprint finals looked like the Planeteers, but they don't.

Finally scientists are not afraid to address differences in humans! We already know there are hundreds of hundreds of different races of sharks... is that shark racism?

Fine, look at the Olympic results. The European countries all punch far above their weight in the overall medal counts (but they think they are inferior in running and so give it little effort). In fact, Norway does better per capita than any other country. Check out the book Soccernomics. It goes through the numbers and it shows that in virtually every sport, participation #'s, tradition, and wealth determine the champions.
By the way, Ethiopia is among the biggest underachievers in soccer by population, and Kenya is bad as well. Affluent countries with tradition (=a lot of international experience) dominate.
sharkism
All humans are genetically 99.9% similar. We learned this after the Human Genome Project. How much do you think you can get out of that 0.1%? Maybe something, but probably not the commonplace notion of races with special abilities.
There is only one active species of human: human. There are many different species of sharks.

Humans and apes are genetically 98.5% similar. We learned this after the Human Genome Project. How much do you think you can get out of that 1.5%? Maybe something, but probably not the commonplace notion of races with special abilities.
Genetics has advanced a lot in the past few years...You should read up on it. The Sports Gene does a good introductory job.
