more brits know how to surrender than how to brush their teeth
To be fair, it's a lot easier to fire a gun than grow food.

Exactly. It takes one trigger pull and a split second to fire a gun. Why is this so surprising that fewer people know how to grow food?
That's really not even true though. I'm sure everyone knows that if you put a seed in the ground, then a plant will grow.

I have been to America several times and I can tell you that the last thing Americans need is more food. However you could argue that many of them should be shot so this statistic is probably a good thing.
Plants do not count as food. Only meat is real food.
It is easy to raise a pig or a dog, anyone can do it. Even little children can raise an animal.
Sorry but those bows and arrows just weren't cutting it. And since 73% of the US population rent apartments it would be kind of hard growing food for those folks. Dont ya think?
Election day 2000, we were contemplating the unthinkable- W Bush actually winning that election.
We said it couldn't happen.
My friend said, "Individually we are the smartest nation on earth, collectively, we are the dumbest. W will win."
Gun - load ammo, pull trigger (could be seen as a way of growing food by harvesting animal meat)
Growing food - if you mean in the sense of vegetables and fruits, I would argue that is is more complicated. Which season do I grow in? When do I harvest? Is this suitable soil to grow in? What types of insects and diseases should I worry about for my plants?
There are reasons farms exist that sell food to the general public. It is a labor intensive process that requires a lot of knowledge.
I'll grow a couple of my own veggies that are easier, but I am not going out of my way to find out how to grow the juiciest, most flavorful kumquat.
and then we collectively got smarter?

more americans know how to operate a power drill than manage and maintain a small private farm with a variety of crops that are suited to a particular climate. Absolutely ludicrous.
