I need some workouts that you have done in your experience that greatly improved your 800m time. Right now, my coach who ran a 47 in college for the 400, is pretty much focused solely on the 400m runners, and neglects the 800-focused runners. In practice we're doing all out sprints of 200 to 400 meters with large rest times (5 minutes or more for each rep, but each one is essentially all out). I have almost no explosive speed at all considering I moved from distance to mid-distance last season and I'm getting smoked in these workouts.
Right now I'm trying to focus on the 800m, because my 400m time is really really crappy, in the high 50s (58ish... ugh) and I think I can go around 2:10 to 2:12 in the 800m. Right now my PR is 2:18, and I didn't feel completely wrecked after that race as I had 2 races after. And yes, I know I'm really slow. And yes, I am a guy.
What workouts are good? 5x800? Tempo? Also feel free to suggest weight room/gym workouts, I have a membership to a local gym.
