I'm starting my base training, but I'm looking to shift from being a predominantly 10000 runner to a 5000 runner. Should the volume/length of my base change? (I'm a 36:00 10k runner)

Oh sorry, question two: can I replace any of the mileage in base with other aerobic activities (swimming, elliptical, ergo etc.)
I think until the absolute elite level (i.e. sub 13:00, sub 27:00), they are the same. Maybe the long run and tempos can be a bit shorter. Apart from that, they're most likely the same. You could probably max your long run at 8-10 miles and still run PBs at 5k.
