This is the worst thing to happen to our sport that I can imagine, and at the worst possible time.
Here we are, soon after the USTAF revealed itself to be completely tone deaf to the concerns of athletes and coaches not under the Nike umbrella, they sell out to Nike for the future.
Athletes not born yet will be forced to compete in Nike? A upstart running apparel company will not be allowed to compete? I hope some other company litigates this.
I feel so upset I may start my own facebook page on this; but I lack the backgroud of knowledge I hope someone smarter than I can take up the banner and start a movment against this deal.
Also, I have nothing against Nike. I remember when Nike was not even sold in stores. Local coaches would sell them out of their car trunks (mid to early 70's) They make some fine shoes, but they are getting a little too much.
"Sally Bergesen, CEO of Oiselle, said she’d like USATF to seek funding from a variety of running brands, and look at the possibility of federal funding as well."
Tax dollars going towards a bunch of entitled athletes? no way! She's out of her mind, and as a co-called CEO, she has no clue how the private sector works, if she thinks USATF should be funded by tax dollars.
Perhaps USATF should have in their by-laws a limit of sponsorship opportunities, up to a certain percentage, so that no company can control the organization. So Nike could contribute up to the year 2040, but they are limited to 35% of the sponsorship organization, and the remaining 65% would be divided among other competing companies.

Yes, and it can create problems. Australia and GB have cut funding. You get politicians involved and they know less about sport development than most people on the NGB boards. The US model is working. Check out the medal count in the Summer Games. Heck the US is doing ok in the winter games too.
I think getting politicians involved would be a horrible idea.

Please, that means nothing... The US medal count is higher than GB and Australia because of population size.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
