Roommate Issue; how to handle this?

I mean, is this happening when you are making a sandwich? If so, hit the dog in the face and say "no." If you're not into hitting dogs, keep a cup of water handy and throw it in the dogs face and say "no." You have to clean up the water, but who cares. If you have a full-sized dog in your apartment, the place is likely a sh1thole anyway.

1. Don't leave food out unattended. Even well behaved dogs have trouble resisting that.

2. Talk to your roommate about trying to train the dog that it may not take things off of the counter, table, or take your food. I suggest commands ("No") and getting a water spray bottle or small squirt gun if you need more to emphasize commands. DON'T hit the dog. That is not how to train a dog.

Passive aggressive doesn't work with dogs. Clear and consistent training and behavioral expectations that a dog can actually understand do work.

I have a dog that's extremely food motivated and a roommate who's never lived with dogs before this. Except for one time where her door didn't latch, it's never been an issue. When she moved in I said, "Don't leave food out because you'll lose the food and my dog might die" and she hasn't left food out because it's a pretty simple thing to do.

Dogs' whole ecological niche is scavenging human food. That's how they are hardwired.

If you leave food out unattended where they can get to it, 95/100 dogs will eat it. So don't do that. Problem solved.
