A good friend of mine is a junior and is currently looking to run D1. I'm more of a DIII caliber guy, and they had a much simpler "recruiting" process (if you could even call it that).
So about my friend...
He is looking to run in college with either a full ride or something close to it.
-4:20 miler (looking to break it, possibly)
-9:30 2 miler
-solid XC performances, although not quite all-state this year (IL 3A).
-He's not a bad student, but also not especially strong. GPA around 3.0 and an ACT in the lower to mid 20's.
My question is, what schools offer full rides for XC/Track guys in this range? Obviously you're not going to get anything from Oregon or Stanford with those times, but considering the number of DI schools/programs, there has to be some money out there for guys with these higher end, but not amazing times.
