Been at about 55 miles a week. Nothing crazy for me but I have only topped out at 65 before. I am 21 years old and am just basically doing straight mileage right now. I do a weekly tempo (4-5 miles at 6:00 pace) and a long run of 12-13. I haven't been able to do strides much because of weather but have done them maybe once every 7-10 days. I've also been on the treadmill for 80% of my mileage, which I hated at first but now don't mind much. Most of my runs are 7:10 average pace (if I was outside I would be running 6:50 average).
Anyways, really concerned and feeling angry about this pain I am feeling. If it's a serious injury I am going to be extremely bummed. A week ago I started feeling some "clicking" when I did leg swings in my right leg. I assume it's the groin area, that's where I feel it when I swing. But I cannot actually FEEL the affected area with my hands. I can't massage it or anything. So I am assuming this means its a joint/bone issue right? And that's a big problem right?
So I've been continuing to run. I don't feel the groin pain/clicking much when I'm actually running on the treadmill. Maybe the last mile or so of my runs I start to feel it a bit, but it's not bad at all and I'm not even sure if I do feel it, it's hard to recall.
I just ran 12 for my long this week on the treadmill and it went fine. I come home two hours later and I experience a very sharp pain in that same right leg groin area when I lift my leg up to step into the shower. It was pretty bad in terms of shooting pain, I had to grab my leg to help lower it slowly to reduce that pain. (Also, when I did lunges a few days ago, I'll also feel a similar pain (but it wasn't painful shooting like today) in the area.) So I tested it again just to see, I basically lifted my knee to my chest and then extended the leg slightly when coming down (like a half assed lunge) and BAM same shooting pain. Now I'm scared just to make that motion with the leg. I'm going to relax the rest of the day and sit down with my right leg extended.
Very sorry for the winded post but I have been getting good mileage in with the hopes of running fast this Spring/Summer. I'm going to be devastated if i have to sit out for X amount of weeks now. But I obviously want to take care of this now instead of later. I have a hard time stopping myself from running but I will if I have to. It just pisses me off because last year I missed a whole 3 months during the winter because of IT band issues, and now that I'm finally feeling fit again, I may have another problem.
Any opinions on the possible injury? Advice on what to do? Should I take some ibuprofen? Does this sound like a stress fracture, I really don't know what to think. I didn't do anything crazy wise in training. Thoughts?
