So is it a done deal that Forest Braden will move from UCLA to Idaho and we're just waiting on the press release?
While we're in the same area, what's the holdup on the WSU asst. coach/hurdles? I thought that was a done deal with Angela Whyte?

The rumor going around town is that Forest Braden is a done deal to Idaho. The same with Angela Whyte to WSU. One of them just got married, so they are waiting for the presser. Not sure what is taking so long on the other one.
Any word on Army or Air Force?

Why on earth would Forrest leave UCLA and take a lower salary with less prestige.....not buying it. Director, maybe but that came and went. Associate head? Possibly, but again why the lateral move?
Please explain your so called facts
I do not know if Braden is going to Idaho or not, but you guys base everything off a job title or prestige. Often times in life many people make work related decisions based upon a numbers of other things. Sometimes, geographical preference, cost of living, potential time with spouse/kids, family and such enter the equation. You all only look at the scenario as coach/job. Above coach they are people. Maybe he just likes the quiet and the mountains (assuming Idaho is quiet and mountainous) more than life in LA?
What's the word on:
Air Force
Army
Columbia
Duke
Notre Dame
How the hell do coaches move around so much? Don't they have mortgages? Wives? Children? It's not like moving is free and the pay increases can't be that outstanding.
It's so confusing. So many parallel moves and seemingly pointless changes. Hell, western illssinoise hired back a guy that quit to do all that pointless shit. Amazing! I bet he does it again.
Just found this. Essentially what happens to volunteer coaches in collegiate track

I don't think a lot of them want to move as much as they do. It's just like anything else though, if you have a family, you have to do what you canb to support them. So sometimes that means finding a higher paying position, or moving to a lower cost of living area, or taking a job for a few years paying less but where you think you'll be able to be successful and add to your coaching credentials so you can move on to a better position. And those are the changes coaches make when the decision is in their hands. When it's out of their control (boss retires, program restructures, head coach is a d*@k and you can only take that for so long, program is dropped), you change positions for other reasons. If you want to stay in coaching, you take whatever is open at the time that you can actually get and is your best opportunity. Turnover is a lot lower than in major sports. Fortunately, there are some programs that are paying coaches much better than 10 years ago, so more movement is good for a lot of people.
But yes, to your point, it means you could lose $50K on your house b/c you have to sell it unexpectedly or have an unhappy wife and children. That's why it's important to live under your means, prepare financially for an uncertain future, marry someone who's a former collegiate athlete, supports your career choice and doesn't mind the adventure of moving, AND move when your kids are young and don't care as much about the change.
Can you tell I've been there!?
Take a look at the bios of almost any college or professional coach in any sport and you will see the same thing. It is a constant ladder climb and often when you think you've made it to the top you or a head coach gets fired and you are kicked to the curb to regroup and try to climb back up. Football and basketball are far crazier but track and xc are in similar situations.
Any word on who is the running for the Purdue job?

I'm not on this site often so I might be behind in the news, but I was just on Nebraska's Website and I seen they are looking for a Throws Coach.

The UCLA distance job is not a very high paying job. But someone like Meb Keflegezi or Brad Hudson might take the job on a whim. Other names to consider would be Rodney Rothoff and Scott Abbott. They don't put many scholarships in the middle and long distances at UCLA. But its a pretty good job if you don't mind living in expensive LA.
