No. He wasn't. That's absolutely not true. Jon was an assistant under Kent Baker. The cheating scandal predated Jon by a number of years. Absolutely false.

Gondak was at Toledo during their cheating scandal in the mid 1990s (giving benefits to athletes). Hence, he left the program. Did he ever receive implication or punishment in this cheating scandal?
We need a further inquiry on the cheating scandal. The fact remains most of his men's team left at Toledo. Basically his top runner ended up being a walk on from Cleveland.
Further inquiry? It was 1980s, man. As far as the men leaving, the program, at that time, was operating with like 6 scholarships and zero in distance. Not shocking men left. I am not sure where you get your information but this attempt to tarnish his name/reputation is registering about a 0.1 on the richter scale.

I was a high school coach who sent Gondak a top notch distance runner in his first year. My distance runner would later transfer to Malone after the Fall Semester 1996, where he want on to be an NAIA All-American. The reason he left was no structure or consistency to practice. Malone easily defeated Toledo in cross country during that time. There were scholarships available. No way my distance runner would have attended Toledo without a scholarship. Recruiting violations did occur in the 1990s, had all those great jumpers. Then a reduction of scholarships occurred as you mentioned in your post. Again, a reason Gondak left Toledo.
Alright Dude, my last post on this because this is not what this thread is intended and I am borderline wasting my time with you. There is not one person on this planet that knows more about the ins and outs of that program, particularly as it pertains to scandals, than I do.Jon left Toledo under absolutely no dark cloud. He was well-liked and respected. If you are holding some grudge against the dude from 1996 then all I can say is...wow.There were ZERO recruiting violations at Toledo from that scandal in 1980s to the present time. those great jumpers went to Toledo because it was a great opportunity and the jumps coach, Jiana Jin, was/is one of the top jumps coaches in the nation over the last 30 years.Malone is a great program. They have that "all Jesus all the time" niche and they get great kids. Particularly distance. The fact they beat Toledo? nbd. Jon is more than qualified for the Penn State gig. If he doesn't do a great job then that will be obvious. He has earned the respect of the other coaches around the nation.Next.

Any news on the Yale Throws position?
Interviews are complete in Iowa City
Kevin:
Thank you for stating the facts about Coach Gondak. He was great to have in the MAC and has been doing well since then. To have some high school dude come on an try to taint his reputation stinks to high heaven. Gondak earned the job the old fashioned way…….hard work and loyalty.

I can only assume the Oregon State job will be filled by a female candidate based on the makeup of the current staff. Hard to believe administration would let a women only program have an all male coaching staff.
How is it that Oregon State has 4 volunteer coaches on staff, yet NCAA rules only allow 3 volunteer coaches for 1 gender program?
Are they trying to be like Oregon (check out Oregon rack coaches web page: 15 staff members!)
Oregon State can have 4 voluteers because they are not fully funded with full time coaches.
You are allowed to have 4 volunteers if one of them is for pole vault specifically, per NCAA rules, FYI. I haven't looked at what they have going on specifically at Oregon State but there is an exception for the vault. So perhaps that is what is going on there.
Looks like Notre Dame is looking for an assistant sprints/hurdles coach. Who will join Turner on the sinking ship?

Because the alumni that believed everything they read here didn't get their way.
If you're unaware who's been hired at Portland state, you've waited this long.a few more days/weeks won't hurt.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
