Why is not a HS athlete's eligibility questioned when they participate at NXN. The schools are wearing team uniforms and receiving free air travel and other benefits for attending. Many of the athletes are non-seniors.
So why are they still allowed to compete at the HS level after seemingly breaking every rule about amateur and HS competition.
I'm just looking for clarification. Proud these athletes could be there, but wondering what the loophole is.
Cite the exact NCAA rules you think they are breaking.
The way rules work is you have to break one to be in trouble.

Every rule about amateur and HS competition? If seemingly every rule is broken, list at least some of them.
First, one loophole is they don't run in high school team uniforms, but compete as clubs. Second, receiving travel and lodging expenses doesn't violate every amateur competition rule, or a lot of NCAA athletes would be ineligible including those taking European trips in the summer. Finally, some NXN athletes do have to refuse, or return, some of the gear they receive to not violate state high school rules.

Thank you. In that case cite a specific NFHS or state association rule being broken?
Michigan obviously is extra strict. The biggest rule I see broken is coaches working with their teams during no contact periods but many states don't have that rule.
Most teams don't wear school issued uniforms. None around here do, where the rules against it are very clear. Just like kids that run at Foot Locker.
Free air travel: That is allowed by some state associations, but not in others. That's why Ohio kids that qualify for NXN have to pay their own way (starting last year). In Washington, for example, it does not break any rules to accept travel (re: flight/transportation and paid hotel rooms) for events such as NXN.
Other benefits: I assume you mean free merchandise? Most states allow up to a certain amount (Washington is $300/year, I believe), and the rest of the goodies are paid for by the athletes if they want them. For any state that doesn't allow any free stuff, it is all bought.

How much are the kids actually paying for the clothing and shoes they receive at NXN?
The retail price of all the gear they get comes out to around $800. I saw a qualifier post a picture of the sheet that listed what they receive and the prices.
Montana only allows $50 worth of free stuff....

Part of the reason is probably that Football national championship would be MUCH longer a process - teams only being able to play one other team each week. Think of how long it would take to narrow the national field down to 2 teams??
Similar, but not nearly as drastic, a situation for basketball: you can have a team play back-to-back days a few times, but how many games should they play a week? 3? 4 would be a bit much. And you're talking about 1 game a day, meaning it would still take weeks to narrow the field, and that is a LOT of missed class time.
Sports like Cross Country, Track or Golf are MUCH easier to arrange a national championship for.

man i freakin wish i could've been good enough to qualify to NXN as a high schooler. honestly seems like such a cool experience, whether you're a top guy or just fortunate enough to be a number 5 guy for a team. if only i worked harder in high school =(
