He said he might, but is not sure. Said he is not running at the moment, needs to start.

The race is for charity, so there is no reason for him to try to run fast. No way he runs under 3 hours. He also said he hasn't been running and needs to start before making the decision.
Good for Lance. Regardless of which charity his race endows (cancer-related is a pretty good bet), I bet he can raise more than Sean Combs did, even tho he would have a shorter period to solicit.
And I bet a van with members of Lance's entourage wouldn't nearly run over Matt Downin during his warmup, like almost happened last year...
I'm sure he is in the cardiovascular shape to do it, but there is the pounding your legs take that must be trained for. Cycling does not translate well in that respect. I think he would struggle if he decided to up and run it this year without having trained yet.
Nike says he will run it. Nike says he will also try out for the Mavericks, get a sponsors exemption to the Ryder Cup, get in no less than 200 plays for the Cowboys, streak the OU-texas game at the Cotton Bowl, make the ATP-Masters final in Houston, go ten rounds in a no decision bout with Roy Jones, do a little platooning for the Rangers, score 5 goals in World Cup qualifying for the mens national team, and slot in to the third line at RW for the Stars.
If he doesnt meet at LEAST these requirements, Nike is contractually obligated to take his other testicle.
NYC: 2:40 or we get a surgen, no local.
With a VO2 max of 83.8 (www.lancearmstrong.com) I would guess that even with 2 months training he could easily break 3 hours if he wanted to. I would guess that going slow would suck for him. He doesn't do anything slow. He could probably jump off the couch and run under three. Come one guys. He is a total freak of nature. He doesn't compare to any of us. He could probably jump on the track and run a low 4 minute mile.
Some of you say that biking doesn't translate? You don't think his knees take a pounding?
I have a friend that trained for 6 weeks and has run under 3 hours. It is doable.
I wouldn't say he could jump on the track and run a low 4 without anything, but definately sub 3... SUB 3 ISN'T ANYTHING SPECIAL. Flagpole Willy needs to take that Flagpole out of his ass and realize just because he barely broke 3 that doesn't make it a tough obstacle. If I ran a marathon and didn't break 3 the first time out I'd probably deep throat my father's cock for punishment because I'd be a little panzy school girl. AND I'M SURE AS HELL NO LANCE ARMSTRONG! I know people that have trouble breaking 33 for an 8K who have broken 3 hours; Lance would do it with ease if he chooses to TRY at NYC... and I highly doubt he will at this point in time. Flagpole, go to hell you loser... shouldn't you be working or something? All you do is post on here. I'm on break from class right now, what is your excuse big guy?
Sorry Flagstaff Silly, I must agree with the sub-3:00 supporters. First, your own 14:58/2:55 logic is backwards. LA rides a bike for 6++ hours at a shot, so if anything his marathon time will be superior in comparison to his 5 km. Also, from personal experience I have run 2:49 off of 50 -55 miles a week. Upon becoming injured I trained on a stationary bike for 6 weeks and ran a 3:09. I am positive LA could do much more quality training in 8 weeks than I, or most anyone, could do in the same time. That said, he will run 3+ hours because it will be a charity effort, thus the "if he wants to" is the bottom line. OUT.
It is not the heart and lungs that will cause him problems, it is that the legs will give out on him from the pounding. I think that 2 months is not going be enough. Plus he still has some bike racing to do (T Mobile in San Francisco).
I think he is not being very smart in doing this. Why run the risk of injury or delaying his preparations for 2005 by such a stunt. There are other ways to raise money and awareness.

RIGHT!!! That's the point! Good job there luv2run. You'd think I said he sucked or something. If I were a sophomoric college kid, I'd ask the Lance worshippers to get off his cock, but I don't talk that way so I won't.
This thread epitomizes Flagpole Willy (or at least it did, until it was deleted.) Says he won't act like a sophomoric college kid, but then does. (see below)Says he won't post on letsrun anymore, but comes back more prolific than ever. Claims to be a voice of reason, but argues based on his limited worldview - ie I can only run 2:55 for the marathon, so there's no way that anyone out there can do that off 7 weeks of training. Relies on his silly "I am the best" mode of posting (ie You needed my wit and intelligence on this board, my brilliance, that's why I came back." Nothing more than old, stale material. Tries to relate to the high school kids he's arguing with by using hip phrases such as "Out!" and "Damn straight brother" and other such nonsense. Anyone else want to add to the list?

This may be one of the more ridiculous threads to date. If Lance wants to run sub 3hrs in NYC, he will run sub 3hrs. 3 hours is hardly a fast time in the marathon (how many slow slobs do you know who have done it?), Lance has a background in running, Lance still cross trains with running, Lance is in supreme cardio shape right now, and Lance is mentally tougher than damn near everyone on this planet. 2 months is plenty of time to get his legs used to the pounding of 180 minutes. If you were talking sub 2:30, then the debate would make more sense, but sub 3:00? you have to be kidding me. when he finally decides to do Kona, he is going to go a lot faster than sub 3:00 after biking 112 miles. My guess is that he is not going to race NYC and therefore very well may not break 3 hours. However, if he wanted to, he would. Do you really think the 6-time winner of the Tour is going to have a hard time running 6:50 miles? Do you really think that he is going to give into the pain in Harlem and throw in the towel? He is probably the toughest guy on the planet and routinely endures excrutiating pain for hours on end. 4 or 5 painful miles at the end of a marathon are going to seem like a pin prick to him.
Why the eff would he want to do NYC. Don't say money because he's loaded. Don't say to prove something...cuz he just won his sixth tour. He's just darn right stupid if he does this.
I'm a former D1 collegiate runner (sub-30 10k) turned domestic pro cyclist and I know I can't run my dogs around the block without feeling some leg pain. Cycling doesn't do jack for strengthening your bones/ligaments and Lance will definitely come away with some injuries if he puts his body through a marathon. Sure he'll run ~2:45 but what for?
Lance ran 15-flat for 5K and 30-minutes and change for 10K when he was a duathlete. He should be able to get in 2:35 range (33:30 10K-type) shape for NYC if he works it.

What? WHAT? Are you or aren't you a sophomoric college kid? Can't you even get through a sentence without contradicting yourself?
Learn to write, moron.

First of all, what I wrote was grammatically correct.
Second of all, IT'S OBVIOUSLY A JOKE!!! Come on now brother!
I think Lance could do it on fitness alone. Under 3 hours probably. Might f*** up his achilles tendons for a while. I've got a friend who never ran seriously, but he's a soccer player with a 60 BPM heart rate and he kicks my butt on half hour tempo runs. That's no big feat, but it that taught me that cross training/raw athleticism can do alot for you.

Lance is a few syringes up on raw athleticism. At least that's what the rumors are.
