The fact that his father is Ethiopian and mother is Eritrean is ideal as is the fact that he's been raised at altitude in CO.

If he's still running 10 years from now we could see a bunch of ARs go down
This just proves that other threads point about "Geb"s being fast. Wish the best for the kid, he certainly looks to be something special.

Why is his East African heritage ideal? So you must be assuming that this confers genetic traits which are advantageous to distance running success. I am not disagreeing, but that is really what you are saying.
Last year East High School (Cerake's high school) they needed one more boy to join. They recruited his brother who has always played soccer but never really ran. Fast forward one month from being recruited and he wins state beating his brother who was breaking records all over the place. Talented family yes, very nice kid to.

You may want to purchase The Sports Gene: Inside the Science of Extraordinary Athletic Performance by David Epstein. It really is a good read and he examines some of these questions. Specifically how east Africans have longer legs, less lower leg mass, and are born at elevation. There's a huge benefit to being born and raised at elevation and it's impact on endurance specific sports like distance running. Give it a read.

And you may want to purchase a introductory physics book where you'll learn that leg length has nothing to do with how fast you run.
his PRs: (from milesplit)
2:00 800m 2012
4:01 1500m 2012
8:51 3k 2012
14:46 5k xc sept '13
in other words...he's an xc guy, for now.
Anyone who disagrees with the FACT that genes are the deciding factor in distance running success is an idiot.

I disagree.
Sincerely,
Usain Bolt
Yesterday, I thought we all agreed that it was Ben Saarel. We can't have two young runners with this distinction.
actually, those PR's are very impressive all around

So why arent 50 million Ethiopian ALL great runners?

this. Letsrun needs to get a grip and realize the white dudes have no chance against the Africans regardless of how they train.

impressive maybe, but average in a national ranking perspective. a guy running 14:40s alone in XC would normally be at least a ~4:10 miler, ~9:10 2-miler
idk how tough the course was though in his PR
were gonna have to find a new term other than American born to describe the runners we cheer for.

I am obviously much smarter than you. What a moron.

The physiological traits that make one predisposed to being a great middle or long distance runner are prevalent in a handful of ethnic groups in East Africa. And by ethnic we don't mean by nationality, but by tribes.
I believe you can read about it in the aforementioned book.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
