terrible race
terrible race
chalk that one up as a learning experience..
Terrible race in general. Was just ugly to watch. Cain looked spooked on the start line. Good experience running in front of 50000 people though. And a good last 200 from her too.
that will teach her not to wear black!
The magic can't go on forever.
I'm afraid she will (or has) reached her limit like the rest of the athletes that are idolized on this message board.
You are only as good as your last race
Bahh! A bit stale and nervous in her first DL. Reminded me of Coe in Moscow. On the up side, she closed faster than anyone else. Had she been in position after her first push to the front, she'd have one - bad race and all.

Actually, watching a replay, this might be one of her most impressive races. She looked completely out of sorts, off, heavy, etc. and still closed that way? Her ability to mix it up in big races and consistency has impressed me. Now add her ability to rally back - even when clearly having an off day to that list.

Cain didn't run a terrible race, she ran IN a terrible race. She's a high schooler for god's sake, did anyone think she would lead from start to finish?
Bunch of idiots

What does being a high schooler have to do with anything? She has one of the best PRs in the field. Why wouldn't she stay in the front off such a slow pace?

This is the dumbest sentiment that has ever been expressed about anything in the entire course of human history.
First of all there were 75,000 there. Second the pace was slow and a little erratic. She was merely following Alberto's directions for the race. That said I do think she is going to struggle to get into the final in Moscow and like Moser is somewhat toasted physically and certainly all this time off has allowed her to realize what she is up against in going to the Worlds. Would have been better for her to have raced a couple more times in smaller events - like World youth meet and a couple Euro races like Paris and a smaller level meet. But Alberto has his "plan" and we shall see if the "plan" works.
You get excited rather easily, don't ya? Why is that?

First, her race wasn't terrible. What was terrible was her tactics-she was all over the place the last lap and a half, she was out in lane 3. It is a DL and Al Sal should have told her to stay as close to the front as possible, can't react to the pace as she did in a national race vs a DL people are much more savy and aggressive.
I'm sure she'll be fine once she gets the ins and outs of tactics at this level. I remember Galen Rupp being the same way-as too was Mo F.
Her closing speed was as good as Robury if not better.

She had the 6th best PR in the field and finished 5th, but don't let facts get in the way of your blathering idiocy.

Blathering idiocy? That describes you not me. Let's take a look at the facts.
Coming into this race, Cain had the 2nd or 3rd fastest seasonal best time. Regarding absolute personal bests, she practically had the 3rd best time. In either case, anyone who is not a blathering idiot would agree with my point that she shouldn't have given the other runners so much space considering her PR/SB compared to theirs on such a slow pace.
Who cares at this point

Oh this is fun. So first off, you posted something that was flat out wrong to support your point. (She had a PB that would have indicated a better placing in the race.) When humiliated on this point, you completely ignore the fact that you were wrong and change your argument. Gee, what a shock.
So let's keep playing. Your new stance seems to be seasonal bests are all the is important. You sure you want to hold that line of thinking chief? I'll tell you what, go through the European meets this year and see how well seasonal bests did in predicting the outcome of the races. Want a hint? You're going to look like an idiot. What a shock again, right.
So if if you've got Galen Rupp against a guy who has run 13:04 this year, you'll pick the other guy, right?
Mo Farah and Ritz have PRs within one second of each other. So if Ritz doesn't come within a second of him he had a terrible race, right? How about Rupp in the mile? You going to pick him 15th? Anyone with a better PR who loses to him totally blew it, right?
We can keep this going as long as you want. Cain was in a race of about 10 runners totally equal to her ability. She placed 5th. In no way, shape, or form is that a bad race. Thanks for playing though.
She's in high school, why the hell would you feel it necessary to broadcast a bad race result like her career was over?
all yall needa hop off her tip and just let the poor girl race, no one is going to have a perfect race every single time they toe the line. those of you who are criticizing her saying she ran a 'terrible race' are pathetic.
Mary Cain, if you have the misfortune of reading this board please know you're hella cute and I love you. You're doing fine.
