I was on track for about 55 miles last week but I woke up Sunday morning with my right knee about the size of a grapefruit. I had completed my long run the day before and hadn't felt any pain beforehand so this particular injury seems very sudden from my perspective. I haven't run for a good 3 days now and despite icing 3-4 times a day and ibuprofen, the swelling in my right knee hasn't gone down.
It doesn't hurt when I walk around or up and down stairs, but when trying to run/cross train on it I get this strange popping feeling right around the center/front of the knee. I've had patellofemoral syndrome before about three years ago but I'd like to get some opinions from you guys.
I'm currently heading into a four year this coming fall and I'm hoping to walk on and try to make the cross country team. If it means being safe I'll forego cross and just resolve my knee issues and try again for track, but I would really like to contribute to the team as much as I can by getting this injury out of the way. Thanks for any advice you can give me in advance. I appreciate it.
