Yes everyone knows this Cornelius Kipruto is an enormous talent as a steepler with the World Youth WYR and World Junior title in a championship record. The current steeple WR has stood OVER 8 YEARS at 7:53.63 and it has only been sliced MARGINALLY the last two times it's been broken. Before Cornelius Kipruto there have been several young Kenyans who showed potential to be world beaters; however, not many of them have fulfilled their potential. Being a World Youth recordholder and World Junior Champion sits well but as many, MANY such athletes before you can atest it doesn't make you a Worldrecord holder!!!! I think Cornelius Kipruto will go beyond fulfilling his potential and several all time list within the next several years: 1500m.....3:28.75 3000m.....sub 7:25 3000mst...7:49.98 WR (first man under 7:50) 5000m....12:46.50 |

The first man has already been sung about by Pearl Jam - his name is Nothing Man. It's Nothing Man because sub 7.50 is never going to happen. Just like sub 7.20 in the 3000m is never going to happen. Even with all the drugs these guys are taking now nobody is even remotely close. End of story. |

Asbel Kiprop could take a crack at the record. He has the build for it and I think he could become the greatest steeplechaser ever if he wanted to. |

No chance you need to be a front runner to set a record not sitting at the back |

CONSESLUS KIPRUTO 08 Dec 1994 1000m...........2:19.85- 17 yrs 07 months 3000m...........7:44.09- 17 yrs 09 months 2000st..........5:28.65- 16 yrs 07 months 3000st..........8:03.49- 17 yrs 07 months accomplishments World Youth CHAMPION 2000m World Youth Recordholder 3000m World Junior CHAMPION World Junior Cross Country CHAMPION has great speed ran last lap in 58 point to pr despite near fall to overtake sub 8 minute man Paul Keoch last year to win in Monaco. Nothing is guaranteed but this is one Kenyan whose age I truly believe and only way he retires in the next couple years would be to injury not his age! |

a great chance at it. even if he's really 22, you'd figure that he's still on the upswing, otherwise why not compete earlier? 8:03 is fantastic in your first year on the circuit. |

Speaking of Evan Jager he himself ran great in that Monaco race; however, he was on Conseslus shoulder and ran a 61 point last lap but lost 3 seconds to the teenager. If Evan Jager can remain healthy most of his career I can see him running: 1500m.......3:33.25 3000m.......sub 7:30 3000mst.....7:58.5 5000m......12:54.9 10000m.....if he try it & take it seriously sub 27:05 |

In one year Conseslus Kipruto went from a 5:28.65 2000m runner to 8:03.49 over 3000m; therefore, in one year he was able to improve his 2000m personal by SIX SECONDS and then hold that same pace for another 1000m- mindboggling! VIPAM maybe on to another world beater! |

Give Jager a second per lap next year with a bigger base if he stays healthy, and he's already under 8:00. Don't see him breaking 7:50, but I'm not so sure he can't come close to 7:55 w/sub-3:50 mile speed. |

That's easier said then done; however, not impossible not likely that EVEN Evan Jager can drop from 8:06 to 7:59 in one year! I hope he does and PLEASE some American ANY American win a medal in the steeple at 2013 Worlds!!!!! |

Wait, let me get this straight. You think he might be able to run 7:58 in a steeple but not 3:33? I think you're crazy. Jager has immense speed. His 1500 PR (and all his PRs except 3kSC and 3000m, actually) suck bc he was hurt for two years and hardly ran a race he was in even ok shape for. Jager was probably 3:34 capable last year. He's definitely capable of 3:33 as a career time. And though I don't see him running 12:54 w/o ever focusing on the distance, I'd say it's safe to say he was probably 13:10 (or a tick faster) capable last year. It's not like he's a scrub just bc he chose the steeplechase. You know that rule of thumb where they say an average steeplchaser (in terms of technique) should run about his two mile flat capablitiy in a 3k steeple? Well, I think Jager's technique is above average, but still: 8:06. He's VERY fast 1500-5000. Just has to put down some times. (which might never happen, running for Schumacher) |
