This is not a study. This is what is happening. On the way to the Boston Marathon in 1971, I met a group of age group runners that were becoming marathon runners. They told me about getting together every Sunday for a 15 mile (two hours) run every Sunday and then having breakfast together. There were 14 in the group at the time. See the February 1974 of Runner's World, Page 30. By then there were 27 which was 50 later and now has reduced in half. We still meet every Sunday although many are reduced to walking or jogging for about 70 minutes before breakfast and only a couple have a beer or two with their food. 8 passed away before this year, mostly due to cancer. Some have raced 25 Bostons and/or 4 marathons a year and one or two are still completing marathons or running 5/10 kilometer races. A couple ran London to Brighton.
5 died of cancer/Parkinson's? this year!--ages 79, 81, 85, 85, 89. The oldest still with the group are 90, 85, 85, 84, 83, 82(4) and 9 more over 75. All were prolific racers and marathon runners for years.
