No doubt that DST is the best coach in north america right now, but I don't think Cam should change what was working for him. Dance with who brought ya.

It all fell apart for Alan Webb when he ramped up his training in 2008. Not exactly dancing with who brought you.
Both Webb and Hall hit a peak and started to decline under their existing coaches. At that point it might make sense to move. So far, other than a bit of a weak Oly's, there is no sign that Cam's current system/environment has stopped working for him.
Running is a finicky goddess - when she is smiling one should ride that wave and not make any sudden moves. The littlest change can cause injury, or upset the delicate balance that is required for top level distance training.
According to his twitter account, he just ran a 190 mile week. Doesn't sound like his training has changed too much.
That would be sweet if they had live streaming from the x-c champs. on Nov. 24th!
DST cant be best coach in canada hes not from BC
I think even RB and the rest of the west coast crew would agree these days.
Worst Decision Of His Life!
when was the last time dst had someone sub 13:40? or 28:00?
he is a coach that takes from the top and sightly improves them...
Levins needs people to train with. not more people to run away from.
Houle has no idea what he's doing in the arena of elite athletes. Hell he can't even bring together more than two decent runners in his own job at regionals. DST>Houle by light years no matter if Houle's insane training has worked for Cam.... so far.

This is a very odd comment, were any of Reid Coolsaet, Eric Gillis, Taylor Milne, Hilary Stellingwerff, Alex Genest, Chris Winter, ... at the top when they began working with DST? All seem to have improved monumentally since working with him.

This is absolutely absurd and uneducated. To enlighten you and possibly others, DST started from scratch and developed talent from the grassroots level all the way up to Olympic calibre. To defeat your point entirely with a prime example (many to choose from), DST has coached Boorsma since grade 9...and he didn't even start running mileage until after deciding to give up on hockey (was captain of his AA team) in grade 11.
And FYI, he currently has at least 3 runners that are sub 13:40 (Boorsma, Gillis, Coolsaet). That's just off the top of my head.
To all of us ignorant Americans, who the heck is DST?

Genest was an 8:30 JUNIOR steepler while training with his old coach in Quebec. He had numerous first and second place finishes at CIS Nationals in his first two seasons racing for Laval. Chris Winter's case is similar although I think that he was maybe under-performing a little in the NCAA and DST has been a positive influence on him. Eric Gillis was the best distance runner in the CIS before he started training with Guelph. He has improved but he was already very good and may well have reached the level he achieved with a different coach and training group as well. I'm not really sure of Hilary's situation, but isn't she coached by her husband and more just affiliated with Speed River to help her case for federal carding money? Taylor Milne has definitely improved under DST and Coolsaet has been with him from the start of his CIS career, so I agree with those two.
As a Canadian, I'm happy to see our top guys train at home, maybe race some domestic meets and mentor our younger runners, but I think that either staying where he is now or moving to Oregon would have been Levins' best bet if he's looking to continue to improve.
DST: Dave Scott-Thomas. Head coach of Speed River TFC and University of Guelph.
To correct a statement above -- Gillis started training with DST after FISU in 2001, long before he was the best CIS runner.

Gillis and Coolseat havent been on the track in years, and can barely run a fast marathon.
look at dst's CIS winning teams, all were fast guys in high school.
Levins would still be training all by himself with that club.

You continue to make incorrect statements. Coolsaet won both the 5000 and 10000 national track titles in 2011. Please stop lying.
Yes DST gets fast guys out of high school a lot of the time, and moreso now than in early years. But for every high school stud that came to him, there's 3 other nobodys that became studs under his coaching. This is not a chicken or the egg situation. The egg came first, with guys like Coolsaet and Taylor Murphy, who were not fast out of high school by any stretch of the imagination.
