The course was dry for the first time in a few years. Bill Jones ran mid 23, and I think that's believable for a 14:35/30:00 guy. Very competitive race, most likely the last mile was 50 - 100m short. It's comparable to the UB Stampede or Princeton times.

Have you looked at previous years' times...?

Must have been a different course and short. The course is fast but comparable to Paul Short or a course like Houghton
i believe they had a gator,a wheel an a gps...
The course was very fast and was made to be a fast course. It was a competitive race and it shows by the results.
The course was dead flat and frozen solid. The weather warmed up just in time for the guys race. So a mix of perfect weather and a flat fast course along with the pace going out recklessly hard (I was in the back with a 4:57 first mile & leaders where out in 4:35)people ran quite fast.
Course is probably 200m short. I missed the first turn with this, but the rest is accurate.
So can I count this as my xc 8k pr?
The course is a mile short, I used my jealousy to measure it. I was pretty jealous so I surmised that the course must be pretty far short of 8k.
I'd be jealous too. Geneseo going around, seeking out short 8k courses. Buncha scrubs.
No. I was just thinking if it's only 200m short is it still alright for me to call it my official 8k pr?
And consider that Geneseo also lost Berube, Novara and Streb to graduation - 3 of the greatest AR runners ever and yet here they are, at the top with 5 guys sub 25 minutes. That, my friends, is great coaching. Keep it up Woods-man!!

I ran in the meet 2 of the last 3 years. The weather was rainy for both years I ran and the course was slopy and muddy. You can't compare this year (I'm assuming from the posts that it was perfect running weather and a hard course) to the last three because the rain made it slow.

You missed about 20 meters on the first turn and a section behind the starting line on the second and third loop that adds probably 80 meters since they do it twice. Still short but more like 4.9 miles. The kid from Franciscan ran 24:24 two weeks ago and given the conditions of Oberlin it doesn't seem out of this world that he would run 24 flat. Seems like a bias of 20-30 seconds, up to you to decide.
I count my 8k PR from the year SUNYACs were at Buffalo State.
the course was 4.94, so about 90 meters or so short. Anyone who knows the oberlin coach could attest to his serious nature and attention to detail. The course had minor alterations from the past, but nothing enough to say it was changed to be a "faster" course from the past. The course was firm (not hard or frozen), but the mulch trail was soft as it was just laid in the last few weeks. In previous years the course was very soft, muddy, slippery and sometimes had standing water. The race did go out hard today (especially suny g who went out and then held on)and was 920's at 2 mile mark.
All in all a good showing for the Atlantic region, should move NYU up in the regional and national polls.

Thank you! At least someone remembers that wonderful 8k... oh sorry 7k course. A lot of prs on that day. Everyone was just running faster back then.
Oberlin is a very fast course and everyone should accept it as an exception to most xc courses. Regardless of if you think it’s short, hard packed, well groomed or pancake flat you can take one look at the results and see that most ran about a 30 seconds to 1 min faster depending on the runner.
What’s more interesting is Geneseo’s win over NYU today solidifying them as the current #1 team in the AR. However, regionals will still be very interesting if NYUs 3rd man today Bonilla can get back up close to their 1,2 in Oja and Karten. I also was surprised to not see Geneseo’s Milles-Rath in the results. Could be a possible injury and might be a devastating loss because they need him for Nats.

Wrong. XC is and has always been about times. Doesn't matter who "wins."
Great run by Geneseo's men at Oberlin! They rightly deserve (now) to be the AR favorites--question is whether they'll be confident enough to train through the Regional race a bit, pointing for a trophy at Nationals.
At Oberlin, NYU's men and women made real progress in tightening their groups--no more "three and the rest"--at just the right time of the season. Carnegie and CWRU were very competitive with the Violets, and the UAA should be a tremendous meet. (But it usually is: nationally-ranked teams often finish in the bottom half of the field.)
The AR seems to improve its chances, week by week, of sending five teams to the NCAA meet.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
