Alan Webb is done, he wasn't even in the pack that went through in 3.39. Russel Brown did well though, good kick. Centrowitz MIA.
Seriously. I heard the announcer say the rabbit was supposed to bring them through 1200 in 2:52. But it looked more like 2:56 and the pack wasn't even with him. How could they be off by that much?

He was waving them on, pack didnt go though...
Mcnamara is damn capable of taking them through in that, he slowed down because no one was going with him. Either you sack up, run hard, and get the A standard or you puss around in the pack and get forgotten. These guys made their choice.

Same could be said for Will Leer. Where was he in that race???
Gabe Jennings was at the race . . . in the stands, "in the race" about as much as Webb. They might as well hang out together.
They went 1:56 2:56 what happened on that 3rd lap??
IT WAS RAINING
Tell that to Kyle Merber for a laugh.

Webb didn't even look that bad; he just got trapped in the middle of an inexplicably slow pack. It was more of a tactical error than a lack of fitness.
He was trapped in basically the same way Russell Brown was trapped. If Webb had finished anything like Brown did, people wouldn't be giving him crap, they'd say he looked good, but had a bad break with nasty weather a slow race.
I was there. The weather was not "nasty." It was a very light rain with little wind. The conditions are no excuse for anything that happened in this race.
If some runners truly cannot handle conditions like last night, then they need to grow up.
I was there too. I thought he looked horrible. He had a look of pure misery on his face when he crossed the 1500 mark. Not sure if it was because he realized how bad his time was, or because he was hurting that bad. I also agree when they ran this race the weather wasn't bad at all. It shouldn't have had any effect on their effort. As for Centro he didn't look like he was even trying. Not sure why he bothered to even run in it. Nike must have told him he had to.
With 250 to go, Webb looked like he was tying up--arms very tense. Maybe he was trying to kick to the 1500 mark but he wasn't getting any acceleration, he was instead getting passed. And even if he had been able to accelerate from that point, the race was too slow for him to get the time he wanted.
Maybe it was thought that Centro should get into at least one race before the trials, while trying not to strain anything. He looked very relaxed, but it was indeed a new experience to see him near last place for most of the race instead of his usual careful positioning near the front. With one lap to go, he started moving up but did not over-exert. A lot of people would like to run 3:57 that easily.

I think you missed my point. I was responding to the guy who was excusing Webb's race by saying he was trapped in the pack. Brown was back with Webb with a lap to go and found a way through. Webb had no kick, it wasn't positioning.
I couldn't tell how bad the weather was. The announcers kept talking like it was bad. But regardless, the race was slower than expected. And Webb still had no kick. Brown, meanwhile, found a way to make the most of the slow pace in the last 300.

Webb hasn't had a kick all season, though. The real question is why he sat back in the pack instead of going with the rabbit, like he usually does. I think he's in shape to get the A standard, but has no shot of making the Olympic team barring some kind of training miracle.
