I am not being mean. He looks fit, but for 6'3", he looks a lot bigger than 160. 160 isn't that heavy for a tall guy, and he looks big. Lean, but big.
He looks bigger than Solinsky, to me, and Solinski is 6'1" and 160.

dunno man, there was a shot of hartmann in the last few meters, and i thought he looked kind of like ryan hall 'esque. clearly not as small, but lean for his height and muscle build.
the above pic shows how beastly solinsky is, and i think that is larger than hartmann.
we'd need a side by side comparison though.
anyway... good job to hartmann, 2:14? in pretty rough conditions just off his pr while the kenyans were well off their pr's or potential.
Seen them both in person and Hartmann is quite a bit leaner them Solinsky.
Look at that cow thundering down the road
Gotta be pushing 210 lbs
I'm also about 6'3, but have been at 155 for most marathons. I am a little too skinny. 160 would be ideal I think.
It's either the camera or something they are doing with the video. The Kenyans look like linebackers.
He is more lean in that photo than today. I'm 6'3" 175, it's nice to see a big guy hang in there.

It's the lighting from the sun glare.
Fast big guys are rare, but not unheard of. De Castella was pretty muscular, so was Herb Lindsay.
The video is deceptive and makes people look bigger than they are. When I ran Boston in 2007, I was 6', 160. But in the video of the race I look like a nose tackle.
But yeah, props to the "big" guys, Hartmann ran great.
When I ran my Marathon PR, I was 176 @ 6'5". And I was a lot skinnier than Jason. Given that he is 2" shorter and giving 5lbs per inch that would equal to 166. But he is certainly heavier than that. Probably 170. Hell of a runner.
I was by no means calling him fat. I guess it was the camera angle. I am 6'0" and 160 and most people I know think I am too skinny. I know that I could stand to lose a few, but he just looked bigger than 160.
Also, consider how the comment about his weight was taken by most normal people watching the race... "160 is a whole lot of weight to carry over 26.2 miles."
Most people, Americans, think 160 is tiny.

Is that a thing?
The aspect ratio was a bit off, everyone was stretched out (sideways). The picture at the end mentioned above was something I noticed as well.

Saw him at the trials. He is very lean, but does have a heavier frame for a marathoner. I would think that he would be 145ish given that the 5'8" guys are usually 120s.
If you were watching it on universalsports.com like I was, then you might think he's bigger just because the picture was distorted. I confess that, being ignorant of who he was at the start, I thought he might be one of those guys from Corral 1 who likes to sprint ahead and run with the lead pack for a mile or two just to be on tv. Clearly not the case here. Whatever his weight, he ran a heck of a race.
Thats the ratio used for men in this race weight thing:
He marked out the swoosh on his singlet with a sharpie.
Is he unsponsored?
Sounds like he is...
Hartmann turned in a gritty effort born from that post-trials resolve, finishing fourth in 2:14:31. It was well off his 2:11:06 PR that he ran at the Chicago Marathon in 2010, but it might have been one of the best marathon performances of his career given the heat and how well he stuck to his pre-race strategy.
“Boston was definitely a redemption race for me,” says Hartmann, who is still without a sponsor. “It’s devastating to see your dreams kind of whisk away and not accomplish what you sacrificed everything for. But you know, you can’t let those things define you. You have to get back up and keep living your life.”
You might want to look at pics of Deek and Lindsay before calling them big in any way.
Neither would top 145.
Deek's upper body was that of a concentration camp survivor.
Tim Chichester looks a lot lighter than 130
