When we consider all of the past female greats none can be compared to Veronica Campbell not even my favorite U.S. athlete Allyson Felix. The only event title that seems to evade her is the 100m Olympic gold and if this is achieved to argue about her place/rank amongst the greatest would be foolish. |

What about Flo Jo? |

James-- GOAT would be a tough sell. There is Privalova, who has an incredibly impressive record that would be even better if Marion hadn't been around. Also in the relatively modern era, there is Perec, Arron (who also would have an unbelievable record if Marion hadn't been running), Gwen Torrence, my favorite Evelyn Ashford, Wilma Rudolph etc in the old era, and, of course, Ottey. I think it's a tough call...they're all great. I don't think that VCB stands out in this type of crowd. |

Who cares about FloJo, Pharmalita, Marion, Block, etc., they don't count. If it's a free-for-all, of course it's FloJo. |

When it comes to GOAT. I'd say Betty Cuthbert among others is a street ahead of her. |

Also Fanny Blankers-Koen was totally unbelievable in her day: http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/british/modern/olympics_1948_gallery_06.shtml Bjorn Borg = Fanny Blankers 2.0 |

We need to be careful not to reply to other bloggers statement with bias opinion and not facts. I decided to reveal the holes in your usual bias one sided statements, by using a not so reliable source (Wikipedia). Take a look at the medal record breakdown on the right-side of the profile page for each of the links below and tell me what you think. If you look carefully you would see that Ottey, Campbell-Brown and Felix stands alone. With that said who has a better GOLD-SILVER-BRONZE ratio.... (Oh yea! relays don't count) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veronica_Campbell-Brown http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merlene_Ottey --------------------------------------------------------- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allyson_Felix http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wilma_Rudolph http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evelyn_Ashford http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gwen_Torrence http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie-Jos%C3%A9_P%C3%A9rec http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christine_Arron |

I used to be a huge fan of female sprinters but looking back, I think that everyone going back to the early 90s was juiced. Christine Arron, Flo Jo, Block, Marion Jones, I dunno... I don't have faith that any of them were clean. |

Looking at those Wikipedia pages, Allyson Felix stands alone due to her Gold Medal count. Veronica Campbell-Brown gets the nod over Merlene Ottey. |

Yeah, but it's not just about medal count. What about WR's, for instance? And should relay medals count in the tally? What about longevity and season-best averages? What about range, from 50/60 to 400? Interestingly, I notice nobody has mentioned Pharmalita in a favorable light. Good. I think VCB is great--the only problem is, lots of them are/were great. |

I'm inclined to believe James Lee. Also VCB just wins. Anyone know what happened to Tianna? Did she just run a bad race? |

Would we consider Wilt Chamberlain as the best Basketball player of all time because he scored 100 points in a single game or because he average 50+ points per game in a single season? Is it possible that Dan Marino is the single greatest quarterback to ever play the game of Football because of what he did statistically in an entire season/career? Maybe we can call Lionel Messi or Ronaldo Lima... (No! I know who! Diego Maradona) the greatest soccer player of all-time because they scored 3+ goals in a single game and statistically they are superior to the rest. The answer is "NO".................. -----------------Greatest Player By Sport------------------- Basketball= Michael Jordan 6 championships Soccer= Pele 3 world cup champs/1281 goals scored Football= Joe Montana 4 Superbowl champ. (Note Bill Russell won 11 NBA championships but is still consider #3 all-time) My point is simple... To be considered the best or the greatest, one must win when it counts and statistically rank with the best in that particular sport/event. |

So that rules out Felix from 'best woman sprinter'. |
