He will move in July to be trained by Jason Vigilante. Anyone actually surprised by this?

Let's take odds as to how long this lasts. 1 year? 18 months?

So he leaves a professional coach for a college coach who has no experience coaching WC distance runners. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me unless that's your only choice. I do wish him the best of luck.
best of luck to him
Best of luck to the Webbs. And of course the situation only *has* to last 18 months or so...

A high school coach got him to run 1:43, 3:30, 3:46, 13:10, 27:43, so maybe a college coach won't be that bad.
I hope he is on great shape by London best of luck Alan have confidence on yourself.
Vig has coached an Olympian. Robby Andrews will make the team too next time. Webb didn't even make the team last time. Vig should turn him away, Webb is lucky he said OK to this.
27:34
On a more humorous note i wonder if he read MichaelMatthews threads here on LR and convinced him lol.
For those of u that don't know vig (yes he's kinda a weird guy) he's one heck of a coach! He knows mid-distance very, very well and has coaches some absolute studs....leo manzano, Kyle miller, Darren brown, Robby Andrews, Jacob Hernandez, etc.
For all u "experts" that think webb is "done".....we'll see about that.

Yea, but things gets complicated with supplementation. He need to stay healthy to break wr again. Coach is not always the answer.
This is a good move only if Webb's head is really in it. If he really believes and buys in, I expect success from him because he's such a talent. On the other hand, it seems clear that he did not fully commit to Salazar and co. He left before he had a chance to get any real results (while still coming back from injury), so he did not believe or trust the program. If it's the same way here, it won't last. If not, maybe he'll find success.
I called this a few months ago. It's a no brainer.
Webb was a talent. He as not shown "the form" in years.
His quest for magic in coaching will not happen no matter who and where he chooses to go.
Let's hope for the best.
Salazar has not shown many results in his professional coaching career in middle distance events

Vig is an excellent guy and will make progress with Webb (who simply needs a coach willing to take on the 6" above his shoulders in order to return to greatness). A guy like Vig can sell the Oreo Cookie diet and Combat Boot training regimen to his athletes and they will believe in it and win races. My guess is that Vig doesn't need a guy like Webb, but Webb needs Vig.
Will vig be well equipped to coach Webb if and when he moves up to the 5000?

Is that cookie diet really in Webb's best interest?!
But seriously folks, best of luck to Webb. He is an immense talent and gets too much grief on this board. I hope this move works out for him.

Webb is the fastest American EVER to run the mile. He is still in his 20's. Webb does not need to worry about moving up anytime soon.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
