Sorry for not walking the walk. Back to reality.

Dick, you're positive outlook is inspiring. Sounds like marathon build-up is going swimmingly. My mom's knee replacements are set for later next month, and she appreciated my forwarding your successes to her. She had a couple people that weren't so positive, so a brighter perspective was very helpful.

Nyloco, you're always welcome to provide your insight on our board. Much appreciated.

On another thread, there was a link to some great exercises and stretches (demonstrated by Matt Fitzgerald) for IT band issues:
http://strengthrunning.com/2011/02/the-itb-rehab-routine-video-demonstration/
If you are like me, I struggle with tightness and weakness in the hips. These seem like really good exercises.

Cheers.

Yes this is really interesting how Dick is having such success with his knee replacements...hmm as I have some of the same ailments in my knees and my left foot/ankle it's encouraging...not that I ever want to have that kind of stuff done on me...however...a 39:42 min. run today.

lucky2b & nyloco, thanks for your input. It's appreciated. Now I just have to figure which type of MD to see - pulmonary, ear-nose-throat, allergist? All the above? :)

Cheers,

Thanks Dick. I'll tell her that she can email to your foundation address if she is interested. I appreciate the offer.

Got in 4 runs over the last 10 days. Todays' being a 10K on 1/2" of slush.
I am really looking forward to a full transition to the winter we know must come to Badger State. Our Snow is washing away tonight. Bummer.
Biking is out of the question, skiing was getting tantalizingly close, running works, but getting in a quality workout on the ice and slush is a daunting prospect.
Well, that's why there's a Nordic Track, spin trainer, and elliptical in the basement.

Thanks much to Dick for his effusive success in dealing with the knee replacements... and to lucKY2b for keeping a fire under this thread... Long may you run... and to the Packers for the rousing drubbing of Oakland on Sunday.

Cheers to all, Carpe Diem... Bushman

I restored this thread.

It was deleted by accident by a moderator yesterday who wrote and said the thread instead of a post was deleted.

My apologies.

I know this thread is popular and there are one or two people causing a lot of trouble in it.

So someone who posts in this thread a lot has written asking to take over moderation of the thread. I think that would be a good solution but would like to hear from the regular posters. So you can email me at the email above.

I don't know the exact problems going on. I personally had stopped removing posts from it but realize that doesn't help the situation if other moderators were not given the same instructions (I had the impression that the trouble maker is reporting legitimate posts to be removed). So if you have any thoughts on this email me.

I'll get on this today.

Thank you wejo! I'll email you soon. (You will no doubt get a lot of emails on this from one particular person, who calls himself Skuja about 2-3 posts up, and links to my email.)

WeJo, much appreciated! As we continue forward, it will help tremendously if we can just stick to the guiding principles. Training and racing is what we're about, let's keep it that way, and respectfully so.

Here's something both amazing and uplifting for us 50 plusers...Linda Somers Smith was named USATF's Athlete of the week based upon her amazing performance in the OPEN race at the National XC Champs last week...her performance would have won the masters division by 2 minutes!!! Check out the article link below...I particularly like her line when she says:

“I don’t tell myself ‘oh I shouldn’t be running these times,’” Somers-Smith said. “I don’t define what I can or can’t do and I think that helps. Once you tell yourself ‘I’m too old; they’re too young; they’re too fast,’ then of course it is a self-fulfilling prophecy."

A solid couple of weeks on the bike to get the general fitness back up.
Running wise, nothing great but was pleased to finish yesterday's 8k railtrail tempo with a 20.46 last 5k.

Great effort from LSS, she is really inspiring.
Our (Australia) flying master Steve Moneghetti continues to set an amazing standard. He turns 50 next year so watch out.
He finished 10th at the State 12k xc champs on the tough Bundoora course earlier this year. He was less than 2 minutes behind winner Liam Adams.
Liam went on to win the National xc and also the City to Surf so the formline is pretty strong.

Respectfully so ? Huh ?

Listen, I apologize for not having offended nor insulted anyone in a while. But ,I am working on new material for the new year.It is my resolution !

I won't bore you with how I became a 28:34 5ker from a 16:12 5ker .

But, I would like to thank lucky2b for keeping this thread alive . The skuj vs. skus reminded me of spy vs. spy in Mad magazine .And, i kept lurking.

Merry Christmas,Happy Chanukkah,Dignified Rammadan, Happy Kwannza ,Happy Multicultultural Solstice, to all .

My fat ass endorsed this wish to all .

Hey L2B it is me.
I've never posted under "used to be rlb", and never will. Did post just once in the last 2 months or so, (about a week before the Club Nats) but that was soon deleted. There were several other posts under rlb that weren't mine as well.

In my post I tried to answer the question, at that time, about how many road races P. Magill ran as a 50 guy to be considered in the rankings. He just ran two, one was that 10k that I have a hard time remembering the time, as it is so foreign to me...I think it was 31:11. Then a 5k a few weeks before as a tempo-ish tuneup in 15:21 or 25 if I recall.

That was a great run at clubs between with Club North West finishing one point ahead of my Compex team. I have to give CNW a lot of credit for running well on their home course. Of course there are some advantages with a home course, but it can just as easily work against them.

I'm still just jogging 2 or 3 times each week now. Taking time off didn't seem to do anything for the ham issue I've had since June, so I might as well keep the blood flowing a little, while waiting it out.

Hopefully LRC is putting things back to normal.

I am absolutely thrilled that my good friend is now the mod, and I thank him for his initiative with this. I also thank wejo and LRC. There will still be silly moments (as evidenced today) but they be dealt with. Wonderful news.

Yep, good news! Good to hear from the real rlb. Hope we see msr showing up here again.

Posting early this week as I'm heading out for a family Christmas thingy up in Kalamazoo tomorrow. Had a real nice week. Feel like I'm back from everything. Probably hit 69 miles this week after tomorrows 10. Three workouts this week were a 10, 10 & 12 all in the 6:40's. The rest easy running...

Plotting out next years races...25K champs, Bayshore HM, Syracuse 5K Champs & Lexington for sure. Kinda/sorta thinking about Buffalo 15K champs & Ann Arbor 10K Champs. Like to get back to the Shamrock Shuffle 8K in Chicago...Not sure I'm liking this or not but I am running the Texas Independence Relay. What have I gotten myself in to......

All the Best,

Dave
