Week 27
**********************************
Greetings all. Hope everyone (us here in the states, mostly particularly) had a restful long weekend with plenty of food and family....and maybe some nice running, too.
Was another sub-par week for me running-wise. Only managed 36 miles on 6 days of running: Sun. through Sat. totals were 5,5.5,0,4,4.5,8,9 respectively. We had one set of relatives leave Monday, with my mother arriving Tuesday, and with other duties (both with work and helping setup the T-day race), it cut into my running time. I'll admit that weather didn't help much on Tuesday, either. No workouts to speak of, but I did race on Thanksgiving morning. Finished with the exact same time as last year, 18:22, but from completely different perspectives. Last year, I had a great summer of running, only to start suffering the hip issues which slowed me down in the fall. This year, I didn't run most the summer due to the knee issue, and have never really gotten into any speed work. In the end, I'm still a 4-5 pounds heavier than this time last year, so I think I'm on the upswing. Also, it's not a fast course, as the best I've ever run it is 17:55.
The outside of my foot starting hurting during the latter half of yesterday's 9-mile run; I hope it's nothing major (like a stress reaction, or worse.) Since I'm not training for anything right now, I'll take a few days off, do some massaging, and hope that it clears up.
I'll acknowledge that there has been some funny business going on again, and I implore us all, once again, to take the high road and focus on what we are doing, and not to waste our time indulging those that are not here to offer their racing and training perspectives. These boards allow for such anonymity, that one can easily be led to believe the sources of all kinds of nonsense, best not to project, otherwise we play into their game. As such, it is best to simply step over those piles of "you-know-what," certainly better than picking them up and playing with them.
As we head through this Holiday season, I hope that we can all be thankful for the opportunities that we have been afforded. It is a blessing to be able to continue to engage in this activity that we so love, and it's a great joy to be able to share those experiences with each other. Hopefully, this whole running enterprise brings us a sense of personal fulfillment that allows us to be more fruitful in the other parts of our lives, as well. May we run and live with purpose, and employ our talents to the betterment not only of ourselves, but also of those around us.
