y'all need to get on google reader.
It looks like the blog is officially done. Here is her latest blog entry:
"Unfortunately, as you’ve probably noticed, I no longer have the time to update She Was Once a Runner on a regular basis. As of right now, I will not be posting new excerpts regarding my experiences as a D1 runner. My goal is to finish my manuscript at my own pace, and then release the story to the public in some format other than a blog. I will probably start with an E-book and eventually, maybe, work my way up to paperback. Thanks to all that gave suggestions. My plans are tentative, and I will update the blog sporadically as I move along with the project, however, I foresee everything being finalized by the end of the year. Thanks to all that have shown support. I never expected so many people to read this blog, and to be honest, I was not quite ready for it. If you feel the need to post a negative comment regarding this post, I ask that you keep it to yourself. I spent a long time feeling like shit, and have gradually gotten myself into a much happier place, so don’t hate!"
that is her way of saying that the whole blog has been a big fake and a lie, and she has run out of material to write about.

That's what LRC is for.
Let's get to it folks!

I think rather, this is her way of saying, "wait, a lot of people seem to want to read this. Lemme make a buck off of it by going to E-book."

This is exactly the case, but I think it will backfire. First of all, she angered a lot of people by just quitting. Second of all, while this was a compelling story in a blog, I can't see too many people actually purchasing a book about it.
arrrrrrgh I can't BELIEVE THIS. F*CK! Oh well. It's a good writing format for a blog, but reading a book in the same style? What a bore. It would be way too disjointed. I guess I'll read that other blog, "running on empty."
I think her book will be a big success.
Thank you to the Author for sharing your story.

And why do you think that? I am not agreeing or disagreeing with you; just curious why you think it would be. There is a big difference between writing a daily blog that many letsrun readers would read and discuss and actually trying to sell a book. The writer of the "Running on Empty blog" has written a book and is having a problem getting it published. She has gone about it in the right way, using her real name and not stopping a story type blog in the middle; plus she had tremendous success as a runner, something it appears the "She was Once a Runner" author did not. So my feeling is if she is having a difficult time making a go of it, what makes you think a person posting an anonymous blog that she quit in the middle of will be able to have success with it.
The Author of Once A Runner is a fine writer, conveying her experiences as they happened. I see no reason to change much from what happened, unless she feels it better to hide things in fiction. However truth is more interesting.
I've not heard of the Running On Empty book.
Having tremenduous success as a runner is not what Once A Runner is about. Nor is it a requirement for writing a successful book. Besides that, my feeling is that she is writing the book for herself, and for others who have, or are continuing to go through the same circumstances, a higher objective than reaching an arbitrary best seller's list. I relate to her story quite well, as my dad was abusive, and I'm sure many people do also. Also I've had a number of teachers like her coach.
Perhaps she prefers to present her story her own way, not someone else's way, which is the same thing that I would do.
I meant to say the Training on Empty Blog writer, not running on empty.
So you see no problem with starting a blog, getting people interested and then just quitting? It is obviously her choice, but unfair to the people who were giving her publicity by reading the blog and discussing it on letsrun.
Unfortunately, her story is not really unique to division l level women's cross country programs. Because of that, it made for an interesting blog, but hundreds of collegiate girls could write a similar blog. I do think what level the runner has reached does make the story more compelling. In the case of the "Silence of Great Distance" a great book that was put out several years ago, Stephanie Herbst was a national champion. The "training on empty" blog writer with an upcoming book was a very high level high school runner and mountain runner. They succeeded despite the issues they were dealing with. That makes for a much more compelling story because it is less common to overcome some of these obstacles and actually succeed, while still dealing with many of the same issues years later.
I think you are wrong. One, I don't think she'll actually finish writing a book. Two, who will buy/read the thing?

Thank you to those of you who have offered such kind words about my writing.
I thought I would let people know that my manuscript is in the final stages of editing and formatting. With the new revisions, I hope that a publisher will be willing to take a chance. I will keep people posted.
If the author of She Was Once a Runner does write a book, I would like to read it. Sometimes just being able to relate to someone who has gone down a similar road can be beneficial.
I wasn't aware of the book about Stephanie Herbst. I remember her from the days when I was running well. I would be very interested in reading that book.
If anyone is interested, I have provided a small excerpt from my book:

Oh, you mean the classy woman who started a free blog about her college running days, got a lot of people hooked on reading it and then just quit doing it because she somehow thought she might be able to make some money off of it. Yes, I remember it.
You can buy the book now. Here's the link:

It's only 2.99 and downloads to kindle and other devices.
No thanks!
I'll probably buy it. This thread probably should have been published as a companion piece, as I remember it half the fun was reading the conversation her newest post sparked every couple of days. If you measure by thread pages, she was very successful getting people to talk and think

Would never buy this book. The way she got people hooked on her free blog and then just quit in the middle leaves me with no desire to read anything she has written. It was a somewhat interesting blog, but not worth buying the book.

Well then why are you still reading the thread?
